I completely understand people's problems with chapter 599, but I honestly feel that if the chapter were made Databook accurate, that it would have no meaning to the story. Not to mention, if it wasn't for NB, I would have had no idea this chapter was Databook inaccurate, but that's beside the point xd.
Now I know that Minato's face among the Kage monument is a mistake, but the focus of my argument revolves around Kakashi and his team. We know for a fact that Kakashi was partnered with Obito and Rin back in Kakashi Gaiden. However, technically that plot was inaccurate based on the Databooks as well because if Kakashi had graduated at age 5, he would not have been the same team as Obito and Rin to begin with. Rather, he would have been permanently teamed up with two completely different people, people 4 years older than Obito and Rin. So if you went by the databooks alone, Kishi's idea of the Kakashi/ Obito/ Rin team is completely impossible and destroys the consistency that we know in regard to his 3-man team concept.
Always remember that the 3-man team is a huge focus in Kishi's work. Basically, once your 3-man team is established, you continue to work with those people through your entire life as a shinobi. In the manga, its clear that only 3 person teams can enter the chuunin exam together, but it's also very common for only a few shinobi to become chuunin at any given exam. So how is it even theoretically possible for people like Ino and Chouji to have become Chuunin in the first place considering they couldn't retake the exam without Shikimaru? I mean we can assume that they team up with other genin from the village, but I'm just saying that this could be considered a manga inaccuracy as well.
The whole point I'm trying to make here is that the Kakashi/ Obito/ Rin 3-man squad means a lot to the story. It essentially shaped the man that Kakashi is today. If Kishi had suddenly broken up this team that we've known about for 350 chapters, I think that would have been far worse than suffering a Databook inconsistency. In addition, I think we can all agree that Manga > Databooks so in a way, Kishi is telling us that what he just told us in 599 trumps the Databook information he gave us on Kakashi. I mean we all know that Kakashi was better than both Rin and Obito to begin with, so that is all the Databook really tells us, that Kakashi had much greater potential than either of them to begin with.
Please be fair and consider Kishi's side of this. Does he really expect all fans to know the databooks inside and out? Again, if it wasn't for discussion sites, 95% of us would never had been any the wiser. Anyway, let me know if this made you re-think things a bit. I honestly feel that this is more a case of Kishi trying to put more meaning behind the 3-man team and less about staying consistent with the Databook. Post up if you want to discuss.
