See Obito loved Rin~ Some people would kill anyone for their beloved ones. But thats not all. My overall guess is simple.
Its like we had this little arguement before about obitos Motives.
It's not fact, but we can look somewhat deeper into the character of obito there is some things that match his behaviour. We also don't have to forget, that Obito and Kakashi made peace at last, but i would do the same if i was going to "die"~

Well let me just get some points out of gaiden to show why tobi would fit in there. Its just i reread gaiden couple of times want to show u some "hints"

here we see obito has kind of eye medicine~ only for his right eye. Dunnow, but for me its a hint towards tobi. Also Obito seems to have natural weak eye wearing googles, maybe a reason why he(as tobi) still likes to wear something that portects them? A mask? just a guess nevermind about that~

Its Like Tobi saying the same things to Kakashi again, what Obito thought of himself at that past. For me it is really meaningful to compare this pages, to bring up an connection to obito and tobi. Well i find it kinda funny~

Well Tobi kinda speak about no wish can become true...what did Obito wished at last? another good comparation of words and feelings here.

Rins death seems important somehow, so i dont belive kishi will bring a flashback up of her without any connection to the actual plot right know. And well the best connection would be if tobi as Obito(still only a guess), for also having this wish getting crushed.

But to point out ur question again, yes rin is important for his motvies but not only that. I think after her death, he just witnessed war that maybe Madara showed him there. So lets count some things out.

-Obito lost his love
-Kakashi could not keep up his promise
-Obito lost his body
-so he lost his future/wish kinda

and that all because of war~
dunnow, but for me that would be some good reasons to think about changing the world and start to do something other didnt. Tobi also stats he wants to live in a world without regrets, a world where there is no need of "Heros" If u say Izuna would here refere to Madara, i dont really belive to see him as a person with an hero attitude, he never had this~

If we switch now back to sasuke and Orochimaru, i think they are going to summon Izuna~

I love how people continue to debunk all Obito theories with "thats retarded" then counter with "It's probably [some guy who was mentioned once, pictured once, and has absolutely no development or characterization whatsoever]."

Kagami would be a million times dumber than Obito, and Obito is already pretty dumb.

Reasons it could be Kagami:
-He's had no development.
-He's 'shrouded in mystery' (see: the manga hasn't ever talked about him because he's totally unimportant)

Reasons it could be Obito:
-Similar jutsu to Kakashi, jutsu that nobody else in the entire Uchiha clan seems aware of, even Madara.
-It's been hinted for a long time, ie foreshadowing.
-Obito has some development, so he isn't a non-character like Kagami.
-Seems to know Kakashi based on comments about him being quick to open his mouth, especially since this is not a characteristic often associated with Kakashi and something only someone who has known him for a long time or knows him very well would know.
-Lots of tension between Tobi and Kakashi in the latest chapter.
-Some tension between Tobi and Guy, who likely would have disliked Obito when young due to the same Lee vs Sasuke reasons.
-On the same page there is a juxtaposition between Kakashi and Tobi's eyes, and the panel involving Kakashi seemingly has absolutely zero reason to be there other than to provide that parallel between them.
-Guy and Kakashi in general have served absolutely no storyline purpose to be in that fight, so it's very possible they're purely there for the sake of IDing Tobi.
-Obito is pretty much the only Uchiha in the entire manga to have exhibited a silly, goofy side.
-Similar names.
-Similar hair.

I'll repeat what I said in the last thread; the main reason people are discounting Obito is because of time discrepancies - this from a goddamn magical super-ninja specializing in time-space ninjutsu - and because it would be a bad twist, at which point they offer up even worse alternatives like Kagami and Shisui.

ps: my first guess is still Izuna via copious lying, second is still Danzou via Izanagi shenanigans, third is Obito via time-space shenanigans. So I'm not an Obito theorist or whatever, but it's definitely got much, MUCH more weight than Shisui or Kagami.

It has already been confirmed by kishi that Unless brothers an inplanted sharingan cannot be deactivated. unless the result is an EMS. So it cannot be obito. becouse the sharingan would be his and thus be able to be deactivated.

I have changed my opinion. Its the Elder son using Obito's body. Which would in a way make the recent chapters a build up to a real twist with Obito still being live but trapped and controlled by the Elder Son who is revealed to be behind every crisis in history.

Also that would explain how Madara survived his fight with Hashirama. The Elder Son in his vessel of the time found him and saved him. He could also be the one who implanted Hashirama's cells into Madara.

its also confirmed that uchiha dont really waste much chakra while having their sharingan activated, and + senju cells u can nearly have them whole the time.
Even Itachi kinda used it witouht beeing in fight & so on. Tobi maybe does no deactivate it of safty reason? We all also thought "why did we never see tobi using Mangekyo sharingan? If he uses a Space Time Technique form his eye?" Kishi just does not show us when he has activated it and when not. Mostly we saw his eyes in situation where he needs his ability. So this is no arguement to say its not obito~

Madara or Izuna .....but more likely Madara to have put Obito into a genjutsu. (same way Itachi did to Sasuke after dealing with Kabuto(maru))
To give him the information and specifically memories of Madara. ( vs Hashirama, + Knowledge about so6p, Juubi, Infinite moon thingy)

If this happened, Obito would end up having more memories from Madara, than he had on his own. I would compare this to Tobi Goofy-Serious. Obito-Madara.

If this happened, Obito-(Tobi) would think that he gave Nagato those eyes, eventho it was the original Madara.

When Tobi said that Rinne Tensei was meant for him, Obito(pawn) and Madara (puppeteer) would make sense ?(Lol i hate it when i see '' would make sense'' in some thread xd

Okay I don't have time to read 43 pages worth of post, so sorry if someone else has said this theory, but what if obito learned his phasing technique when he got crushed by the bolder, he thought he was dying, but turned out he phased through the rock. Cause if you think about it each time tobi used his technique it was always with regular sharingan. Meaning tobi could learn this technique without the need of a MS. After that he may have run into zetsu who has the ability to travel in the ground.

P.s I'm not sure why he wouldn't just return to the village once healthy enough, or maybe he did and saw rins grave, making him enraged activating his MS and his hate of Kakashi and War.

I am assuming that Itachi killed zetsu clones since they can aquire not only the physical feats of an individual but their chackra signiture aswell & since we can see that Tobi is well aquintanced with Zetsu.

-Proper age while fighting minato
-Sasuke Orochimaru : "The one who knows everything"
