Just thought I'd run this by my fellow NB members to see if it makes sense:

Many people believed that Itachi cast a genjutsu (some say Izanami) at this moment in chapter 580:

They turned out to be wrong in that regard - however, Itachi was indeed doing something right there that was essential to Izanami -> he was setting up the "starting" point of the "endless" loop.

We see shortly after the above manga page that he tells Sasuke about Izanami and says that it's already been prepared (see below).

You will then note in the most recent manga that, when Kabuto is under Izanami, the "loop" seems to start at the same moment where Itachi is stabbed and then cuts off Kabuto's horn.

That being said, I don't mean that Itachi "recorded" their fight from that point on, but rather that he used that one instance to create the starting point of each loop. As we saw in the manga, Kabuto can change his tactics in each Izanami "loop" - though with the same outcome until he chooses the path Itachi set for him.

Let me know what you think and if I missed anything, thanks!

I agree, this what I was thinking. I'm also wondering does izanami really take that long to activate or was itachi stalling to draw out all of kabuto's abilities so that when the loop starts again with kabuto's horn being returned what ever he tries is futile because itachi has already seen it. Just a thought.

Exactly what I was saying. There's now way the loop could have been cast before that because the events that took part after were not looped - if you understand.

Example: Kabuto putting Sasuke and Itachi under genjutsu. Not part of the loop.

Could be either one, I'm not sure :)

Pretty much what everybody said. I just hope Itachi gets what he needs from kabuto. Im ready for the rest of the war.
Agreed - I'm ready to go back to the other battles

I think I get what you're saying ...

Basically I say that was the starting point set by Itachi, but that events after that point don't necessarily show up in the loop. If Kabuto doesn't do what Itachi has set out for him, it ends up starting the loop again.

LOLS - - make sense
Thank you!

I think he did cast Izanami at that point in ch 580. He was just waiting for either the right time or the time limit for Izanagi to end to reverse it back to that point. That is why they focus on his left eye. He rewinded the loop either when he felt like he saw all of Kabuto's jutsu or when the time limit for the Izanagi loop was reached.

I sort of said the same thing, a little different nonetheless.

He cast Izanami when he was stabbed and it took effect right then. We have NEVER seen him use a crow clone outside a genjutsu.

I am thinking the battle has only been going on for few minutes but it seems longer in the genjutsu. It would make sense if it was mere minutes as this would give Kishi the opportunity to switch over to Madara/ Tobi fight without thinking about "time".

This is what I believe as well but im not sure which one it is. "when the time limit for the Izanagi loop was reached." This is most likely what it is though because him waiting until he saw all of kabuto's abilities is a bit OP.

And it's Izanami not izanagi xd
