Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique
When Madara Uchiha was first summoned by Kabuto he said, 'So it finally happened. It would appear that little brat Nagato finally managed to grow'. And shortly after was surprised that he had been resurrected by the Edo Tensei.
During the Invasion of Pain Arc, when Nagato used Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique, it only resurrected people who had recently died - hence the reason Jiraiya wasn't brought back to life. I'm sure that was how the jutsu was explained during the time.
So why did Madara, after being dead for years, expect this technique to bring him back? I don't know, perhaps it can be used in a more direct way and bring back one chosen person instead of just resurrecting numerous people that have recently died, but I'm just going from evidence and how we have seen the jutsu used.
Also, Tobi said that Nagato's jutsu was meant for him. I think this supports the idea of Tobi being created by Madara. I believe Tobi was created by Madara. As Madara seems to have planned to use Tobi in order to get Nagato to revive himself. If Tobi was given Madara's will, then perhaps this is what he meant by 'him'. He believed that Nagato's jutsu was supposed to be used to revive Madara - his true self.
In the last episode of the Anime, during Tobi and Konan's battle, part of Tobi's face was revealed and it was shown to have a really dark skin complexion. If you compare it with pictures of Madara you can clearly see Tobi's skin tone is several shades darker. Tobi's complexion is more like Hashirama's.
It is for this reason I have come up with my own wild theory: Tobi was created from both the dna of Madara and Hashirama. He was created by Madara and instilled with Madara's memories and will. He was created as the 'original' white Zetsu. And by that I mean Tobi was created from the same matter that was later used to create white Zetsu (We saw that Tobi was made of was made of a similar white gooey substance during his battle with Minato). Bare in mind that I'm not trying to say Tobi is Zetsu, just that they are made from the same matter. It says on Naruto wiki that White Zetsu was created by Tobi from the cells of Hashirama, so I believe Tobi inherited Hashirama's DNA from Madara shortly before his death. If Madara gave Tobi his memories, his will etc, Tobi would know how to create Zetsu, with the knowledge of how he himself was created by Madara. It would explain how he knows everything of Madara's past, and it would explain why he is so old. Finally this might also explain why we haven't seen him use MS - maybe the clone is incomplete in some way, and because he is a clone he cannot fully harness the powers of the Sharingan, and this is why Itachi said he is a 'shell' of his former self. This is wild speculation, I by no means believe I have found the answer. Feel free to shoot me down or add to my theory. I look forward to your responses! Peace. x
