I've watched about 22 episodes of the series so far and I don't mind it, but I'll be honest because I have a preference for anime that is a bit more serious though, however it's good to kick back and cut loose once in a while. I mean, this anime does just that, it provides an easy story-line to follow, however the overall story lacks a realistic maturity, but perhaps that's what makes it so unique.
The storyline becomes much more serious later on. If I'm correct, you're currrently at the Baratie arc, which I think starts at episode 20. Things will start getting serious there.

If you want serious, wait until Whitebeard comes along... you just wait and you will be very surprised....

IMO, one piece has all the elements that an anime needs like comedy, romance, adventure, battles, and more and the storyline of one piece should not be compared to other anime because one piece has a goal to finish.

Naruto is childish.
Bleach is childish.
Dragonball is childish.
Yu Yu Hakusho is childish.
Hunter X Hunter is childish.

Who cares if OP is childish too? It's a manga aimed at young boys with mature themes, so it is childish.

The only difference being, it's the manga singlehandedly carrying the manga industry right now.

The question isn't whether its childish. We all know its childish. The question is: Is it TOO childish?

Narutos idea is better for people to enjoy. One piece is so more deep, and is to complex for kids and most people after the whole arlong Arc.

This is why DBZ and Naruto have made such a huge impact in the anime world. the ideas are just awesome, and more attracting to people.

not saying my onions biased, because i love me some OP.

Don't call something childish from looking at characters names or the animation, people do not watch these anime and read the manga because they look mature or more realistic but because they enjoy the story and usually the development of characters. Another reason to watch is for the humor, some people don't like 100% serious fights with no jokes at all, they want humor. Another reason I can think of is the complexity of it all, for example naruto with the hundreds of characters, techniques, summons, element combos, bloodlines etc...

My point is who cares if something may look childish to you, its about what appeals to the audience. Different people enjoy different things and there is something out there for everyone. There are people that may not even like either of these anime, but instead enjoy romance or mystery anime, but they don't go complaining about how childish other anime are. I'm going off topic a bit but you all understand what I'm saying right. It's not about how childish something is. Someone earlier in this post made a good point that minecraft looks childish but its a hell of a game still, don't judge a book by its cover. Think about Spongebob, that is one hell of a childish cartoon about a sponge that wears pants and works in an underwater burger shop with his neighbor squidward the squid and his boss mr krabs the crab but we don't care about how childish this all sounds, we watch it because it makes us laugh our heads off :D

For those talking about fillers and how bleach is better then naruto because it has no fillers well... I simply don't watch those episodes! So for me NOTHING has fillers lol. I know someone is going to say "but how do you tell whats a filler and whats not?" Well when you see a talking emu telling its babies about its great battle with Naruto at the start of an episode well that would be a good indicator of a filler, or just read the manga ahead a bit =]

I love watching and reading Naruto because of the humor and the great complexity in it, at the start you learn a lot about all the techniques, bloodlines, elements etc. then when you get into the story great battles unfold from all this and everything makes sense, to everyone that watches Naruto, "the blue water ball thing" that he throws actually makes sense and every time we see him use it we think of all the training he went through to get his rasengan and how much its improved, then the smart way of how he combines it with sage mode to make rasen-shuriken and saying any more would be a spoiler for people watching only the anime ;)
Thanks to the complexity of it all Naruto is great for discussions and the mystery of Tobi is great, I actually knew Tobi wasn't Madara from the very start when he came up with that story, I still believe that he is really Obito and even came up with great reasons for this, when I saw Madara come out I'm like "hell yeah I knew it!".

I can't say much since I haven't watched it, not because it "looks childish" but I simply don't have the time to start and catch up on 500something episodes. Theres people that call all of us here childish for watching anime in the first place, but how would they know when they haven't watched any in the first place. This is exactly what the dude that came up with this thread is doing, he hasn't really watched One piece but he is jumping to conclusions that its childish.

One Piece is an awesome and funny anime. What I think is great about One Piece is how it portrays the importance of friendship and to fight for what you believe in. The Pirates you see in OP are completely different to the savage and cruel pirates in real life, but that's what I like about the show; It portrays the life of a Pirate through the eyes of a child.

Now you're just talking about Straw Hat pirates, who are only in it for the freedom and the adventure. There are some pretty cruel and savage pirates in One Piece as well.

I know but compare the things you see in OP to things you would see from the pirates in real life, you know like the killing and r*ping and looting. You don't see stuff done to such an extreme in OP. Not saying that this manga is the childishest thing out, it's pretty mature at times.
