Luffy, Sanji, Ussop, Brook and Franky and other characters can be serious when the time calls for it.
I've read the entire manga. I realize that everyone can get serious when the time matters that's not my point. The characters are often just goofy. A lot of the events that happen around are odd too. Like the characters in Thriller Bark. Lola the hippo, ehh...Even Moria is goofy to me.

Naruto ain't that serious, Goku ain't that serious either. :ghehe:
And those you said as goofy, it's not every time. You can see them seriously present in some times.
I hate when Naruto and Goku act goofy too. I hated Jiraiya's pervertedness as well. I just find that Naruto and Goku are generally more serious than Luffy and the majority of the One Piece characters. Luffy can be downright goofy about a lot of things...that's pretty much most of the time when he isn't fighting.

That's probably the big difference to me, One Piece's goofy characters are almost always goofy except when they're fighting, but Naruto and DBZ characters are serious more than they are goofy. Just last week's chapter at the end Chopper stops to smile indicating that he's not out of control. One Piece is just much goofier to me than Naruto and DBZ and it takes away from my enjoyment of the series. Everytime Buggy shows up I cringe. Luffy fills himself with water (until he's much bigger) to fight Crocodille...Then you have awesome times like Marineford and Impel Down which makes One Piece feel like a totally different series.

i saw some episods and i really think that OP is too chidish
You "saw" some episodes, you didn't watch them. It's like looking(not reading) at 2 pages of a book and thinking its too childish.

Thats the problem with most of who have "watched" a couple of episode of One Piece and disliked it.. no one of your goes into it with an open mind.

Same thing with most of you who post the same shit that was posted 12 pages ago. You haven't read the thread and what everyone has to say. Thus people are just repeating what has already been "answered" in this thread.

Unlike Naruto, One Piece doesn't go out of the way trying to be something its not. It's a cartoon, it is supposed to be childish. It is childish, but not too childish. It doesn't try and hide the fact that its a cartoon, it embraces it.

One Piece is interesting to me as well because it has some very compelling moments and then they have the Okama...which makes me cringe. I did feel bad for Sanji that he was stuck on the Island with the Okama for 2 years. I think One Piece is much more like Dragon Ball than Dragon Ball Z to me. Dragon Ball had a lot of the same elements...a ton of goofiness followed by intense action. Dragon Ball Z is much more serious all the time removing most of the goofiness more like Naruto.

I watched a few episodes and to be honest, but One Piece just seemed stupid and childish like said. I mean I didn't feel the same nostalgia I felt for Naruto when I watched it the first time. Even if I did watch all of it, I doubt I will have changed my opinion. Also One Piece fans do need to stop hating people who just don't like it. I mean if One Piece is better than Naruto then why are you really here this is mostly a Naruto forum for Naruto Fans.

I mean sometimes you do judge things by it's cover but it's mostly because we are talking sense half the time.

Bolded Part - Well, why don't you try it out?, We're not hating on people who hate it, It's just stupid to judge it when they havn't even watched it or just seen 5 episodes of One Piece out of more than 500 episodes.

Because we watched Naruto before we started watching One Piece. So when we started watching Naruto, we joined this forum. And then we started watching One Piece and started liking it more.
And here we are

Seems like you forgot what a cartoon is after watching Naruto. Newsflash: It's for children, thus stupid and childish.
It's like if its childish, its not for you. But the fact is, most of us enjoy it because its stupid and childish.

I agree that you have to give the series a good amount of time in order to give it a true rating. That's why I've read all of One Piece, Bleach, and Fairy Tail rather than simply saying I don't like them. At this point I enjoy One Piece and Fairy Tail, but Bleach's storyline feel in the toilet after Aizen.

One Piece definitely has some things that are easy to dislike, but I think if most people read the whole way through they'd find a lot of elements that they enjoyed. They may still feel a lot of it is dumb...I feel that way as well, but there are things like Haki that are awesome. Marine Ford and Impel Down are amazing arcs too...I think that would change a lot of peoples overall opinion of the series even though they may still find things dumb.

This is precisely why Naruto > Bleach, I swear Kubo goes into his apartment, blows a pound of coke and just starts coming up with pictures that might look cool when drawn. That's Bleach in a nutshell.

You know how I know this. Compare last weeks' Naruto chapter to Bleach's chapter. I read the former in 20 minutes, whereas I read Bleach in 2 minutes. That's the ****en difference.

As for One Piece, I haven't read the story-line or even started the anime/manga, but I know this much, that most manga/anime start of light and get serious down the line.

It's not like Bleach, where Kubo never intended it's story to suck.
Oda makes it childish and stupid, intentionally.

I think it was really clear that Naruto > Bleach
Yep, and Kubo probably does that. He draws before he gets high, then gets high and fills in the speech bubbles.

And yes, One Piece only improves for the most part from episode one. It goes uphill from there.

if u don't like OP and the storyline just GTFO right ?
Why should we GTFO? This is a naruto forum so shouldn't you GTFO? And I do like OP. I've read all manga chapters and seen all Episodes. So don't go bitching that I haven't seen everything and it starts to get excited at the end of it.

Anyway, like I said. I do like OP, but I don't like it as much as Naruto. They both have very good storylines (Naruto has a slightly better story), but the art of OP isn't anywhere near that of Naruto. If the art of OP was always the same as the art of STRONG WORLD, then I would liked it much more. But it isn't..

Overall, I like both manga's/animes and I love watching them. I don't get why people compare them, because they're completely different. They both have their good and bad sides.

A lot of cartoons are like that, it's true. I'd rather have a serious cartoon than a childish one...btw I don't watch either anime, I just read the manga. I enjoy both, but I prefer Naruto. I like things to be serious most of the time and stupid/childish some of the time. In One Piece it's stupid/childish most of the time and serious some of the time. To each their own, I enjoy both and understand why some people don't enjoy Naruto or One Piece.

When I watch One Piece, I don't try to compare the art style of One Piece to anything else. I watch it with an open mind.
All the animes have their own unique style of art, and One Piece has one of the most unique styles. I don't see it as something bad about it.

You see? that's the difference between you and most naruto fans, you are making a proper conversations with your own arguements against OP without being aggresive or insulting anything, that' what we are talking about

I haven't really watched One Piece, how would you recommend I start the series w/manga or anime? I mean, reading 500+ pages is pretty daunting. Also, how serious is the anime (e.g. serious like Death Note or kind of like FMA?)

Luffy is goofy and really stupid, he's not just acting like it. And he doesn't stop being stupid and goofy even in the heat of battle.
There are like a few moments when Luffy gets all serious and when he does that, you'll have chills running down your spine for days.
Luffy is 95% goofy, 5 % serious.

Where as Naruto is more like 30% goofy, 70% serious. And when he becomes goofy, it's not really as funny or when he becomes all serious, its not that exciting, because you are used to seeing him serious a lot of the time and goofy some other times. However Luffy is good at being goofy and stupid, so even if he's goofy and stupid 95% of the time, its funny the whole time, because hes an expert at what he does.

It's nowhere as serious as Death Note, and not as serious as FMA either.
I mean it has its moment, but "being serious" isn't what One Piece is known for. As someone provided a list of serious stuff in One Piece, like murder, slavery and shit like that, it does go out of the way of being trying to be serious.

You could watch some AMVs first. There are some really good ones. Go into it with an open mind. And I suggest you read the manga first and then watch the episodes, but thats just my own personal preference. I like to read the manga first and then watch it. Because either way, each episode is 20 min long, however, you can get through the manga really fast and catch up with the story.

imo you should watch it, there are so many epic moments that you can't understand by the manga, and trust me if at any point you get bored, just bear with it, it gets really better, when i started watching OP i spend like 4-5 months to finish it because i was bored at some points (mostly till 200 first episodes) but the potential of the anime was making me want to continue, and 2 years now i am desperately w8ing every week for an episode :(

you are absolutely right, when luffy gets serious he is such a badass, in comparison to naruto , that he rarely is serious in a badass way ,except the pain battle where he remind me of luffy and at that point i was so close to say naruto is equal to one piece , but then fillers came and then more fillers came and in OP we had the marine HQ arc and after the 2 years skip and still no fillers and then i remembered why it is still my favourite anime
