Holy cow of course it's gonna be like dragon ball z, dragon ball z was the best anime of all time before naruto so who cares if they have some similarities, I personally prefer naruto because it has better character expansions where as dragon ball z all the characters that were good end up sucking as the storyline evolves. since naruto and sasuke were originally thought as one character and kishi is a big fan of db that's only natural. you could also say that while goku(naruto) watches how the unimportant and weak side character kirilin (hinata) dies he goes into super saiyan (fox mode) and begins to destroy the before unbeatable enemy.

most shonen are more or less based on db(/z).

even more extreme are the similarities of characters:
naruto's character is extremely based on goku with his good-guy- and "I'm gonna save everybody"-mentality. sasuke's character development (including all character trades) on the other hand is the reversed development of vegeta. while at the beginning he accepted others, now it's everything about his clan. the other genin are the side-characters that while at the beginning stronger develop slower and are in the end just useless.

I hate when people say that everything good is a ripoff of something else, we all know kishi liked dbz and yes he´s inspired by it but naruto is original, who cares if it looks like ssj? Uhhh you obviously didn't actually watch the show. You sound like one of those people who watched the major fights and determined the plot from that. If you actually watch the how in it's entirety, there's actually a good plot that is told out in a great manner. Not to mention it's a matter of opinion. I think naruto has far too much plot. I'd rather see battles that last a few episodes or chapters than a battle that, if you remove the chit chat, lasts about five minutes, just like the naruto battles.

the ideas don't have to be exact and kishi stated dragonball was his main inspiration for his manga. were not calling it a ripoff, were saying that it's very similar(which it is). the story line, characters and many more things are completly original, but many things are copies of DB and were just simply pointing it out.:shrug:
