All I can think of when I read "up the pine, down the pine" is how it would be some hard climbingxd Passing with flying colour would probably refer to how flying colours might reflect happiness or brilliancy, perhaps?

Actually it was if you think about it maybe she was referring to a past memory of something she was doing and you reminded her of it and it could be an old saying when someone reminds someone of something.... .-.
