Personal Views: Your thoughts on Religion

Encyclopedias were written by men too, that's what people use these days for a reference.

But the thing I have a problem with is the attitude of religious people. You're going to hell if you don't do your tithing. Stupid shit like that.

I believe in God, I've read almost cover to cover in the Bible [@LD - The Old Testament is part of The Bible], although I don't remember verse like those idiots on TBN, I do believe that the Bible speaks truth. I don't want to get into a debate about it, I actually like what I'm reading**

Nah I actually am pretty firm, its just the people I can't stand hahaha. But I find by being open minded, every religion is the same just different methods, God Names, Views of the World etc.

I actually understand the perspective of Atheism. They want things to be logical through common thinking and... how do I put it, Science I guess? Some thing like that.

The difference is that the bible was written by medieval men who saught to control the masses. They were very different then modern humans. They thought men were dominant and women were housewives and that being homo is a sin.Anyway they solved most of the their problems(people they couldn't control) by stoning them to death.

Also the difference between the common wiki and the bible is big. Because we know the wiki is written by other people. But the wiki doesn't tell us how we should live. It gives us information. The bible was written by medieval man, yet most Christians I have met in life and online say it is the holy words of god.

Anyway it's really annoying when Christians go:"You Atheist scumbag, root of all evil, you are going to hell for eternity for your actions against god".

Anyway if god really loved us why didn't he just create us in Heaven? Oh no, I love you all but I have to torture you for 100 years before you get true eternal happiness, sorry. Whats the point of testing us? None, just getting most people to crack and commit "sin".

The concept of god seems too impossible for me.

Atheists are just simply people who don't believe that there are deities. Just remember Atheist doesn't mean scientist. Too many people confuse those two.

I'm Atheist, and you have NO idea how much descrimination because of that!!! Everyone's always, "Oh, hey, you're that dude that doesn't believe in god, right?? I hate that!!! "Oh, you should believe!" SCREW HATERS!!!!!!!!!

Umm... I get just as much of that from atheist as I do from Christians. I don't think that either one should go out of their way to hurt or criticize, just to simply understand.

As for me I am a self converted atheist. Not that I should be put into any category. to put it simply I believe in an omnipitent, all knowing being; that different cultures have persieved and made into the various religions and beliefs we have today.

well said, but if you we just handed heaven how would grow? I mean really? If your parent gave you anything and everything; how would you know the difference between right and wrong. I mean look at the Buddha, he would of never known, what death, or sickness, or what it means to starve, or anything else for that matter. How could he? What is your suggestion for solving this problem?

ok i think we need to define what we're talking about here. most people are against the institutions of established religions. But i think that it's wrong to say that what somebody truly believes is a lie. No matter what. Yes I believe that religion is forced on people unfairly, but I also believe that many people come into their faith on their own, and truly put their soul into it, so I'd appreciate if people stop lashing out at others for their beliefs. lash out at the institution, not the beliefs :flaw:

This is very true. We would not know right or wrong if god didn't let people have free will. I think the reason there is evil in the world is so we can see how great god is.
Personally i am christian but i do like my beliefs proven, most scientists are actually christians and even steven hawking the master of fricken space and time is christian aha!
Religion can never be proven right and never be proven wrong.
I am not closed minded though so if people have true opinions i like to hear them.
Also just to clarify, in the bible all you need is faith in christ dying for your sins to go to heaven. Just because you don't give money to the church doesn't block you from heaven.
Also being gay is just as bad as cussing or stealing a stick of gum. It's all the same.

I don't want to quote anybody, but there was a comment or two in this thread and the other basically insulting those who believe in God. But you're right, for the most part this has been very level-headed and I'm glad for it. I just felt that people weren't being clear about what they meant by "religion", be it the faith, the customs, or the institutions involved. Also, I was just trying to reiterate that discussions like these dont have to include backhanded comments and the like, and we can just speak more respectfully towards each other in general. Everybody's opinions/ideals are valid. Sorry if i was misunderstood at all...

i think there's a religion for everyone. i'm respectful to all. i guess i'm a pagan a student of wicca, worshipping the sun and the moon and the elements earth,air,water,and fire and helping our planets environment.

I like it. No afterlife huh? what do you believe happens after death, just nothing? I believe in reincarnation... sorry i'm just really curious now

Satanists have got a bad name in the past because the catholic church ran a smear campaign against them saying that they performed human sacrifices etc. and unfortunately some people took this seriously and started to say they were satanists and performed all the acts that the church claimed the real satanists did, in reality satanism started from a group of people who wanted to explore outside of religion for answers

I'm a christian but i don't debate on religion
and i don't believe that anyone's beliefs are wrong
most religious people that have a religion are usually brought up with that religion in there family or even country

I'm italian so please correct me if i'm wrong on this but i remember reading somewhere that there was a coup de eta in Italy a long time ago and the leader of it forced everyone to be catholic. And that's why most of anyone there who is religious is usually catholic.

my point is that if you try to say that someones beliefs are wrong of course there going to deny it. if they were brought up with those beliefs then they would be calling there life a lie. and we shouldn't judge anyway as it only causes more harm and today's world has been through enough drama already.
