actually, if we are the most advanced country, why do other countries have access to high speed trains, high speed broadband internet access and other advances? In Japan, a train is considered late after 5 seconds has passed by. Currently, the USA is 2nd in the CIA's GDP ranking, behind the European Union. China is 3rd and Japan is 4th. Though projections show China taking over the No. 1 spot rather quickly and soon.

And yes, any avid follower of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reily and/or Fox News is easily considered brainwashed. Beck and Limbaugh are horrible examples of Americans who really just care about themselves and making a dollar. Fox News constantly twists footage, takes quotes out of context, ignores stories that they don't consider important when they really are, or make up completely and utter lies and report them like they are the honest truth. Fox News is a complete and utter failure as a news organization and honestly does more damage to the USA than they realize.

This is exactly why Americans are stereotyped as dumb, provocative and brainwashed. You have this idea that you are better than others. You didn't invent anything of that kind (the idea of "Internet" and the first steps towards its development actually were made in CERN) and you have merely a history of 519 years which seems like...a decade compared to cultures like the Egyptian, the Greek, the Persian, the Chinese and some others. The reason why most other people don't like you is because of your attitude in the Internet which goes like this usually "Oh shut up, or else my country will bomb you!"
It is this projection of your somewhat "advanced" military that you tend to use as a threat towards all others that makes you stereotyped. And I am not speaking of you personally, but for the hundreds of Americans I have met through Internet. As for the brainwashed part, you are brainwashed as we are all. We are all brainwashed by the media, so it's just good to admit it as I am admitting it for myself. That is "advanced".
Your completely unjustified, cruel wars that you tried to present as "freedom wars" is also the main reason why others do not like you. I am Greek and I have seen with my own eyes what you did to Yugoslavia in 1999. But let's not talk about that here, because it will only cause a fuss. Everyone has the right to their opinion and that is mine and I really do not want to offend anyone by this. It is what I have seen with my own eyes and what I believe.

In real life terms however, I have met Americans now that I live in UK and all I can say is that they are amazing people. Very friendly, caring, kind, funny and definitely helpful. One of my flat-mates is American actually and he's a really great guy. It's funny though cause he only eats burgers for breakfast, lunch and dinner and he weighs just 60 kilos. I wanna kill him! That's so f* unfair!
Anyway, like all stereotypes it's in our hands to change.

I think you can't see the forest for its trees. As in any culture/country/region, you have idiots, normal and intelligent people. This isn't any different in America.

As Liliana stated, it's hard to have a different view or perspective about America, when all you see is "The Majestic Rich America" or "The Huge Poverty Issues in America".

One one side you have:

• Hollywood and all their idiotic stars (exceptions can be made);
• series like "The OC", "The Hills" and all that crap (I don't watch TV often, but I think those are pretty recent shows?);
• Big industrials;
• The "Lets-pay-it-with-our-credit-card" attitude;

On the other hand you have:

• Shitty social Health Care
• Imo, stupid republicans who only seem to care about patriotism and making war + getting oil from Arabian countries
• Wall Street that crashes every other 40 years if i'm not mistaking.
• Michael Moore documentaries (Bowling for Columbine, Psycho, etc)

My point being, America only sends out two kinds of reputations toward the other countries.

1. Being superior and meddling in any war, thinking they can do anything (cf. Pax Americana, 2003(?))
2. All the problems which they fail to solve in their own country.

My opinion, and this is mainly towards politicians: get your stuff together before you point out your finger at other nations like a twelve year old who accuses someone of stealing his cookie, because you really aren't that much better.


Other than that, Americans aren't bad. I've played WoW with Americans who moved to Europa from America, and I've never had any problem with them. You have good and bad, impulsive and patient, rude and polite people in every culture. Not just in America.
