Lightning is the discharge of electricity(electricity is formed due to movement of charged particles...current always flows in the opposite direction to the flow of electrons) in the atmosphere...how does lightning forms in the atmosphere has been debatable for quite a long time..as there are many theories regarding the formation of lightening in the atmosphere.There are various types of lightnings like Cloud-to-cloud lightning (quite common),Positive lightning(rarest type).

First, move your hand forward and concentrate your (current) lightning chakra into the tip of your fingers, when a certain amount of chakra is gathered, release the lightning into a few small bolts towards that tree. *points*

Charge up your arms with lightning chakra, then slam on the ground, releasing the lightning into it, and try infusing chakra into your lightning, enough to able to control it's direction. Once released, direct the lightning through the ground to shock my clone here. *points at it*

Well, you used up too much chakra to try and control it, the whole idea is to give it a direction and let it go by itself. Try again, this time giving the direction from the very beggining, and afterwards letting the lightning do it's magic.

Charge lightning around your body, keep infusing chakra, and it will create an electric field that will protect your body from taijutsu harm(not guaranteed against strong attacks).

This one has the same basic idea, charge up lightning around you, creating an electric field, instead of keeping it still this time use you chakra to send it towards my clone.

Charge are relatively large amount of lightning into your hands, then release it all, in a stream, ripping through the pillar of earth.

Remember, you can charge smaller amounts of lightning with that technique. And you can combine it with a water technique.
