Remember the saying “all anime characters look the same”

What does that remind you of?

“All Asians look the same”

Does this end the debate? Because white people have sooooo muuuuuch diversity.

The exaggeration isn't irrelevant. We're talking about features that indicate their race. Their eyes don't. Also, why is it self-hate?

>Don't lie.

Not, most have different colored eyes than black looking. Usually light brown.
The exaggeration is irrelevant because it’s part of the art style.

>Don’t lie about what?

Wrong on all accounts, most are dark brown.

Usually Japan already made the movie of a certain anime with all their Full Asian cast, also even if the cast it’s not Asian, look a AoT and Full metal movies.

Hollywood’s tried their interpretation of the movie which leads to failing every time, to me when it comes to anime to movies the cast is not really important as longest they look the part and the movie is actually good.

I’m really excited for Alitta tho it looks good so far TO ME

Most manga normally don't have this contrast. Take Death Note for example. Light Yamagi is Japanese and L is supposed to be European, but you can't tell the difference.
It's been many years since I read DN but wasn't L half Japanese - only one of his parents being a European?

The author stated he was a quarter Japanese, a quarter Russian, a quarter Italian, and a quarter French.

This whole topic is so foreign to me, I have no clue, I don't want to be offensive but I don't know what the right answer is xD. I didn't even know about white washing until Exodus came out and people told me about it.
I think anime don't really have characters that are necessarily asian so I think it would be fine for anyone to play those characters.

That is a bait thread.

If a character from "X" anime is of an ethnicity, I would expect the role given and prioritized to his ethnicity.

I just need to clarify this though, when was the United States ever using diversities? Most movies only features Caucasian American which is probably only 1/3 if not less of the population.

Want to start a war? Egyptians were white! I’m kidding.
But casting was crazy. I just liked reading comments over the actual movie.

Maybe two Hollywood fights have crashed into each other when they should have been separate the entire time.

Good anime movies vs Asian representation in media.

It’s easy to see why these issues got mixed up.

Okay. Say they will make a Hollywood movie of an anime.

Do you want an all white cast, with maybe one Asian.

An all Asian cast, only.

Or all Asian cast with the lead being white. (Star power)

Or, since this is the United States, a mix of everyone? But maybe the lead be Asian.

I was thinking about cowboy bebop, everyone can be a different ethnicity. Kinda like how rogue one was diverse.
I feel like it would really depend on the story, Cowboy Bebop is one of those cases where it could work easier because the cast are clearly different. If you have a cast/story that takes place all in a specific area then it may seem more odd to have widely varying appearances.

Though I don’t agree 100%, maybe we, the United States, the prime standard of the world, can fix the issue with some diversity in their intellectual properties.
You say that like there's not diversity in the intellectual properties here. And before you say "they could use more" show me a IP that's completely segregated?

I think the cast should be whatever depicts the manga characters most accurately.

Your example of an all asian-cast with a lead white male has already been done before and flopped horrendously. Dragon Ball Evolution.
Dragonball had a lot more than the casting wrong and no technically it wasn't an all Asian cast with a lead white male unless Emmy Rossum and James Marsters are Asian.

Movies
1915 Birth of a Nation

Excluding tokens
TV
Friends
South Park
How I met your mother
Sienfield
Etc.
A movie from 100 years ago? That's our standard?

Southpark has black people, white people, asian people, mexican people, gay people, straight people, crab people, handicapped people, able bodied people, christian people, jewish people. But that's not diversity? Or did you mean specifically racial diversity? Just because a show has a cast with a predominant demographic doesn't make them not diverse.

The daughter on HIMYM was part Portugese part Anglo-Saxon, Cristin Milioti is Italian, Belgian, Czech, Scottish, Irish and English, is that not diverse or is the issue she "doesn't appear diverse"? Ranjit, played by Marshall Manesh? And for the record, in amount of appearances these 3 are the next highest after the stars with 65 for Lyndsy Fonseca, 25 for Milioti and 21 for Manesh, I wouldn't call them token.

You had good examples with Friends and Seinfeld though I would argue they're a bit dated now and we've clearly moved past that formula, most shows today have a varied and diverse cast just not equally diverse but that's not exactly the same thing.

That makes no sense. Their eyes are neither Asian or Caucasian, you agree the art style is different so how can you claim they're white from it?

Their noses and lips are not white. Their jaws are not. So what is?

First, you’re the idiot that lacks the common sense to realize that Chichi isn’t Japanese, considering that Japan doesn’t exist in DB. Your idiocy is further evident considering your failure to realize that wearing garb and living in an Asian type of home doesn’t make a character’s ethnicity or race Japanese. I know you’re illiterate but don’t act as if I didn’t say the following:
Both of us said that the character isn't Asian. However, she's clearly meant to reflect Asian women/culture by every context around her. So if portrayed in live action, it should be by someone who is also reflective of that culture.

Ichigo, a white character, has the soul Reapers garb which is Asian inspired but he’s still a white character living in Japan.
According to you.*

Grimjow also wears Asian clothing and bears a katana, is he Asian to you? What about Kaneki ken? @bold: So is Hercule Asian too, Trunks wears a gi so he’s supposed to be Asian too? Lmfao you’re literally an idiot.
They, like Chi Chi, reflect Asian culture, so their portrayal should as well. Also, Ken Kaneki literally is a Japanese student in Tokyo.

Depends on the setting of the anime and the characters name. If it’s in Japan or some type of fictional country similar to Japan’s culture, then it will make sense to have Asians take the role with the minority of whites, blacks, etc.

Lol why is that everyone here fails to comprehend simple things? Re-read through the conversation and tell me where you got lost.

@bold: And that’s the most illogical thing I’ve ever heard. Also where did that even come from?
