Should we take Boruto (series) seriously?

Honest question but here’s my little take on it: I don’t think we should. First of all, it was a money grab to begin with for a series that ended rather disappointingly but also somewhat tolerably. Second off the main character is trash and regardless of how you slice it, he’s fiercely underwhelming despite his prodigious skill. He still wound up being another clone. Thirdly, the story itself and I mean, all of the variations. It’s a mess...a literal clusterfuck of retcons and inconsistencies. In the anime, Boruto sports the “Jougan” that was randomly tossed in out of nowhere BUT in the manga, the Jougan hasn’t been even discussed at all. It’s possible that Boruto will never even have it in the manga but I digress, the “Jougan” hasn’t been seen recently at ALL in the anime for some idiotic reason but I theorize that the anime will retcon change Boruto’s eye to the Jougan when Momoshiki peers into the former’s eyes and bestows the Karma seal upon him. Don’t even get me started on Urashiki (who I kind of like btw) and Toneri being made a part of this series.

Anyway, I understood the nerfs in the Shin Uchiha arc but even after Shin warned them about their waning skills, the writers still decided it was a good idea to dilute demigod tier characters. Sasuke’s Rinnegan allows him to learn and easily master literally any and all techniques so why is he still sticking to lighting techs? *Insert Rinnegan nerf & endless Rinnegan Oprah Winfrey style distribution rant*. Anyway, the fact that Kabuto (a key figure in the vote series) and the Shin Uchiha clones are probably never going to be seen again pisses me off. Even though Kabuto found himself, he is still a neigh-Demi-god tier shinobi. He knows literally everything that Orochimaru does and can probably make better “Mitsuki-like” artificial beings that possess the Rinnegan and Sage Mode. I’m not saying that it needs to happen nor am I saying that it should but his prowess is wasted. I feel like a lot of characters with potential are being treated like Goten and Trunks; absolutely wasted and mishandled.

I could go on but I won’t for now and just to stress this, the only thing that’s canon is the manga, regardless of how much that hurts your feelings. Anyway what do you guys think?

I like the parts involving Sarada were Clone (Boruto) isn't the focus otherwise she gets cheated. I get to see a little bit of Kakashi/Itachi come out at those moments even though she doesn't kill anybody:( Other than that it's a kids story about a Clone of his father who wants to be like Sasuke, who has 2 KKG(Ass pull release, plot armour release), is supposed to be a prodigy but ass pulls and receives handouts.

I wouldn't take it seriously unless he dies and the story is scrapped. It's restarted in the future(new gen age/era) with a young Madara clone finding his way in the world dealing with the stigma of the original solo king (Madara) and his own place/purpose in the world. A far more dynamic character and story can arise from such a character instead of this second rate trash we currently have.

Only child with teenager/adult body or adult/teenager with child mentality will take Boruto series seriously. No offense to anyone here but thats what I feel.
Take Boruto seriously? I'd rather take it out back.

Not to be. It's been tragic writing from the onset. Boruto (seriesly) is only surviving its sink into the ocean's abyss because Naruto and Sasuke are key figures in the series. Fans do not help with their insatiability when angling to said characters. Spoiler alert: Mesmerization is fundamental to this fan epidemic.

People will take whatever they want seriously
so this thread is pointless.
Lmfao and THAT, my friends, is the mind of a fool. :lmao:
It’s not like I was asking for other people’s opinions or anything, right? :Sparks:

Exactly, after Naruto and Sasuke are gone/dead, I’m done with the series. The writing is too terrible for me to develop any interest in the new characters aside from Sarada, Mitsuki and Shinki.

Glad it is not only I who realises the unfolding failure of this series. The unoriginality is only missable because there's such characters that are greying that area of failure (Mitsuki and Salad). Series may stick around for a while however, due to Bort getting wowing handouts to hype the pseudo-fans and Sasuke and Naruto being used as gimmicks to soothe processly dismounting fans. It provides a fake-entertainment, but the shitty writing is so eye-injuring and brain-destructive, it may not be tolerated anymore. Personally, it is Sasuke who's really making me stick, and my curiosity has been piqued by the two afore-mentioned.

I realised this serie would be crap (both manga and anime) the moment when I saw Ikemoto' s version of Momoshiki.
Ikemoto doesn't care about Kishimoto's work and will contradict Naruto manga without any remorse...
That' s sad.

I knew from the intro what we were up against.

The first chapter shows us Boruto with a Byakugan, Sasuke's sword, and the lines "join your father" - or something to the effect. The hook for the entire series isn't really "Hey, let's tell a story about Boruto" it is "read to find out how everyone (probably didn't actually) died." None of us really care to read another story about teenage mutant ninja wizards in an endlessly repeating coming of age story. That's really only fun when it's something like Agarest, where you try to breed your lineage into godhood, or something. Which is, admittedly creepy when you think about it, but it at least makes the concept of "another love triangle coming of age story..." a little more interesting.

I was hoping that it would tie up some loose ends regarding the otter-ski, but that seems to be quite a bit of a bust. There are/were some intriguing ideas presented for potential conflict within the plot, but they seem to have been dropped or were just poorly implemented in the first place. The idea of "skill" versus "technology" is an interesting one that had potential. We are used to seeing this in the distinction between western and eastern military philosophies. The eastern military philosophies built on the idea of heavily trained and practiced forces - the few and the elite. The west focused on industry and technology to empower the masses. This is usually expressed in anime in the form of swords versus gun-like-thing. The sword almost always wins, because the better warrior should win. However, seeing this reflected in the form of a device that could take someone's chakra and then perform the jutsu for them, automatically, versus a raw ninja would be rather interesting (as opposed to a straight-up cheat device where the chakra comes from nowhere).

Alas, where there was great potential, mediocrity ensued.

I don't really know what you guys expect. The manga is monthly, there's only 24 chapters. They can catch up in 12 episodes. Prepare yourselves for 6-7 more episodes around the movie and then another 1-2 filler arcs until they give us 2-3 cannon episodes.

I don’t think you understand that with everything you’ve said, the anime has already deviated away from the manga. The way the chunin exam invasion went was completely altered, dialogue and costume design included.

The writing in this series is awful.

Why was Boruto chosen to go with the Gokage when a better choice would be Shikamaru for strategy or Sakura for her medic skills? Why did Momoshiki give Boruto dojutsu? Why is Orochimaru still allowed to experiment on children without Naruto or Sasuke doing anything to stop him? How does Sakura faint after destroying her own house despite being in much more stressful situations as a kid? Why can't she even control her chakra properly while angry anyway? Isn't she supposed to be good at chakra control? MS was supposed to be very rare so why do all the Shin clones possess them. Why did Kaguya even need a Zetsu army to begin with when she's so much more powerful than any Zetsu army? Why does Sasuke not spend any time with his family when he can afford to do so with Boruto?

Didn't Momoshiki originally have 2 transformations?(at least according to the novel)

1-“The transfer of power…that is our clan’s law.” Momoshiki said, and ate the cinnabar pancea pills that had been created from Kinshiki.

The colour of his flesh changed. Chakra spurted out from all over his body.

2-“However, this power isn’t enough to defeat me.”

Momoshiki was getting up, an indignant expression on his face. He ate more cinnabar panacea, his skin now turning black as pitch night.
