I think the Nue conspiracy is what led him to gain access and pinpoint Kaguya's dimension. The Rinnegan might as well granted the ability as default. But he needed the info about the Nue still.

BONUS: I like the hierarchical development for the Ootsutsuki clan. Seems that dimension travel is a common trait with those with the Rinnegan. But Kinshiki didn't have Rinnegan right? How the hell does he do that?

Kaguya was able to travel to Earth without a Rinnegan as well. S/t is a natural ability for Otsutsuki, either that or they're using advanced technology

There were only three things I liked in The Last: Toneri's SP Cloak, Sasuke's Meteor Busting Chidori (literally hearing the chirping sound effects when Kakashi was panicking made me like "oh f*cking sh*t it's Sasuke"), and finally Naruto CES punch. That's about it though.
