Not really true. There's been an interchangeable term of the use Prodigy and Genius for characters in the same sense. Sasuke for example, isn't book smart like Sakura, but is a superb strategist. Yet he's called a Genius along with Shikamaru who has an IQ of 200, yet the translation is talking about how skilled Sasuke was against 1000 men without getting scratched once.

Genius and Prodigy don't have a distinct difference in the Manga. Quite frankly as long as you're talented, you can be called either one. Depending on how much wank the author gives you.

Yeah i think genius should apply to those who invent new abilities that's op like. Kakashi, tobirama, minato(sigh...), sasuke, orochi etc.

Where as prodigies be those who can handle difficulties of mastering abilities with very minimum of ease like neji and sasuke

When kakashi label lee as the genius of hardwork. It just seems counter intuitive imo. Doesn't even make sense. If it did, it would make more sense to apply for naruto since he always finding alternative ways to make something work.

That's because Kakashi knew Minato was trying to create FRS so he tried to make/help Naruto master it.

Not Sasuke. It was pretty clear that Itachi overshadowed him. Sasuke was talented as a child but not enough to call him a prodigy. His character was an avenger for a reason.

Sasuke may be a prodigy himself as well. But I'm sure as hell it wasn't his defining character.
I'm a Sasuke fan and I don't feel the need to have a prodigy label for Sasuke.

The term genius has been used incorrectly on many occasions.

The true geniuses in terms of creativity, intelligence and with inventions which became the base for other new jutsus would be...
Tobirama (Created many jutsus without needing live human experimentation as far as we know)
Orochimaru (Invented new jutsu though a lot of them were brute forced by trial and error, took Edo tensei to a whole new level)
Minato (Invented rasengan, was trying to apply nature transformation to it but died early, Took FTG to a whole new level)
Kakashi (Invented chidori and other variations of it)

Sasuke was labeled as a genius and praised by Madara, Itachi, Naruto, Kakashi, Minato, Tobirama and Orchimaru.
Madara is called a prodigy at the age of ten.. Some how you left both characters off your list.. That's exactly why I created this thread. They gets no respect for being intelligent when it was shown through out the manga.

As I said the base for most of Sasuke's jutsus is what he learned from Kakashi.
I only mentioned those whose jutsus later became the base for others that's all.

Personally, sasuke was called a genius, and it was shown early part 1, but in later pt1 and ship he's not shown as much... or I should say it's not emphasized as much, but I think this is more of him
Being a main and having to fight increasingly difficulty enemies(a story is no fun if one of the mains just plows through everything no?) mads on the other hand... he was a battle genius and prodigy for sure but he never really did anything super smart outside of battle( not that we ever see him out of battle anyways) plus I'm not totally convinced his genius plan to get hashi's DNA was a plan as

Sasuke wasn't a genius though, he was a prodigy, it's not the same thing. When he countered Itachi's genjutsu it was because of his talent, when he mastered Lee's taijutsu it was because of talent, when he invented Kirin it was because of talent.

Geniuses are the likes of Shikamaru, Itachi and Minato, they have prodigious skill but their intellect is what stands out the most. When you look at their fighting style you can tell they rely mostly on their ability to analyze the opponent, when you look at Sasuke he relies less on rational thinking and more on his prodigious talent, like Madara.
