The fact that Ace was aware Teach was a Logia and proceeded to attack him without Busoshoku either means Ace is an idiot, or he didn't use Busoshoku.
Again, he was testing BB because he realized before that physical attacks were affecting him despite him saying he was a logia, hence why he added after the attack that it was strange that it affects him despite him saying he was a logia. Note that Ace even said that he shouldn't have been affected by these kind of attacks, implying he could have affected him with other type of attacks(hakified attacks)
Saying these kinds of attacks doesn't inherently imply that Ace had other means of injuring his intangible body, It simply means the kinds of attacks Ace uses wouldn't work. Having another variant and not having another variant are equally implied by the statement.
you did not require haki to attack teach. his fruit powers are not like some normal logia fruit. even luffy punched him in impel down without knowing any haki:bdpf:
The difference is Ace knew he was Logia but did not know Haki wasn't needed and continued to attack without Haki anyways.

Comedic effect. Nami could bruise Luffy with normal punches despite his rubber body being immune to Moriah stepping on him with punches And kicks that can split an island. Oda said not to look at the comedic moments so seriously.
Ah forgot about nami. In that case I have to say that ace has no CoA or CoO. I still find it weird that he was a member of a yonkou crew and a commander to boot but still didnt have haki when it was explicitly stated those who rely on logia intangibility in the New world will get killed. Yet ace didnt, (I suppose he must have quickly realized not to rely on it) I think if oda had introduced haki before ace was captured he would have had it, but unfortunately for him it was introduced too late.
