A parent isn't just the person who brings you into this world, that's only the first requirement. The second requirement is to be responsible for you while you grow up, to protect you and feed you while teaching you manners. Sarada may have been Karin's biological daughter, however Karin failed as a mother and couldn't raise her for whatever reason. That responsibility went to Sakura who was Sarada's guardian. From a genetic point of view Sakura had no such obligation but this touches on the theme of this weeks chapter. It's not just your genes that matter, your feelings about one another play a huge role while raising your kid. However, from a genetic standpoint Sakura's motivations were so she would have a chance at getting her own biological kids with Sasuke, it's a complex situation that makes you appreciate Kishimoto's story in this sequel. Anyhow, I will stop calling Sakura useless from now on, I'm sure Karin is grateful to her for doing the task of raising Sarada because she couldn't for some reason.
