I don't think he was a fanboy. He was genuinely grateful. But he didn't make it out as though Naruto had all the answers to every problem.

Ty for reading
Part 1 Gaara started out as a guy who didn't care for anyone or anything but himself. He only wanted to see people die by his hand so that he could feel alive. I prefer that Gaara over the Gaara that only speaks of peace and that hope garbage nonsense.

Shippuden Gaara lost my interest. He might have had a lot of positive development, but I don't like it when someone I like turns to the good side. It makes me sick. Same with Neji, and Pain.

Characters that were once evil or bad, and then decide to become good because of the "Shounen Tnj" are not in my favor anymore.

His development was fine up until mid part 2. After that, it was annoying.

I also don't think that a character changing (in terms of personality or goals) is always good development or makes them the best developed character. There's a difference between good development and having much of it. I wouldn't even put Gaara in my top 5 for most well-written characters. The only characters I can think of that received good development for their entire showcasing in this series were Kabuto and Itachi. Everyone else was pretty much tarnished (some more than others... whether that be through pairings, giving up goals and thus having weak convictions, or whatever else) by Kishimoto elaborating all the way through.

However, I do think he's better than Naruto and Sasuke. Also, his improvements were pretty enjoyable to see. Glad to see that he came so far in life and was so successful. His closure was good too. Nice thread and +rep.

Ty for your feedback. I agree change is not indicative of good character development however in Gaara's case it most definitely is. The way he addressed the SA and the way he addressed Onoki is so different to how Naruto would have handled those situations. I think Gaara became his own man. Esp when he told his dad "I'm not the monster you created anymore". Shows his swag still to be intact. He's emotionally on a whole new level.

Once again, excellent thread. I personally enjoyed watching Gaara's development a lot throughout the entire series. I like how he has grown so much, from a blood-seeking monster to a well-respected leader of his village, the very village which once despised him.

Gaara's a fantastic character and I love his dynamic with both Naruto and both of his siblings.

I guess I can see why people prefer his part 1 self, but personally I don't have a problem with his character development. I tend to love when characters take leadership roles, so it's great to me to see him turning his life around and making a difference in the world by taking the lead. His backstory also provides an interesting perspective to how he views politics and how a village should be run.
