Well if Kishi is writing it so it's going to be canon I guess.
Didn't Kishimoto write Kakashi gaiden too? Is that canon?

depends on your definition of "canon".to me i would consider it canon since it expends kishi's original work
I personally don't think it will be canon to Naruto unless the power levels and feats are kept the same.

It's a mini series so probably not, don't get high hopes for it.
I will only read it if it has action. The ending of Naruto was pretty bad for me, not expecting a good story here

I consider it canon, but some people don't, which I don't understand why. It made perfect sense and didn't contradict the manga, plus like you said, Kishi wrote that arc.
Well anything having to do with Itachi's past is going to be a contradiction, as his timeline is forever inaccurate and contradicted, even in the manga.

Doesn't that make the anime cannon in your eyes...?
No it doesn't. I don't watch the anime at this point. But I'm pretty sure The Last is the only case where this kind of thing happens. SP itself just make adaptations to the manga.

If he however does at least declare whatever's in the anime cannon, then I would go with it. Even if it sounds retarded.
