My point regards that was the type of clothing he was wearing though is a mark of his silly dress-sense but no where means he is a women hating monster he is being treated like.

That's internet for you Anorion. Nothing more.
As I said Ira scientists are not people who are not known for their social or fashion sense. Yes it was inappropriate for an interview or such but blunders happen. If it was just 'getting attention' it wld have been ok ....

Well then they should ask someone's opinion before trying to make an individual statement in such a fashion. The guy donned the shirt specifically for his interview over the black shirt he was already wearing (it was mentioned by one of his defenders to explain that he doesn't wear such a shirt normally to work and he thought he was being cool wearing that. So you are right about bad fashion sense but then he did it.) He wears such a shirt- many do not see anything but colours and someone on fashion desk registers what the print really is.

One of the science journalist mentioned it early on and was told to shut up for the guy was a "legend". Later on the guy who told the girl to shut-up said he hadn't noticed the print and " thought" she was commenting on the bright coloures only. Maybe if they had let the scientist know the problem, they might have rectified the situation faster. But nope- women are supposed to keep shut about minor irritations when the guy is a legend. So you do not have a fashion sense yourself and you won't take help from the ones who have..

Anyway he donned the shirt and called this was the sexiest landing ever and that though Rosetta was sexy , she was not easy. Now he was kidding of course but you wear such a shirt and make remarks like that and hope not to be noticed that the shirt was worn intentionally even if not for the reasons he was accused of ....

Did he deserve the hate he got personally- of course not and since he apologized and clarification was made it should be over. But if you are expecting the initial commenters to retract their point- you are wasting your time. For two reasons- because the issue was not that guy in the first place.

Many of the serious feminists were asking why no one checked and asked the guy not to wear such a shirt. For he is a legend. Legends become ideal and get copied. And if something is irritating in a daily routine and on routine basis many women end up fending of sexual aggression of one kind or another at work places.

Also I see you are not yet informed of the real situation .... He was not made fun of, it would have been more acceptable. What happened: He (his shirt) was basically presented as the lead cause and representative for of misogyny that prevents women from entering the STEM fields and makes the workplace oppressive towards them (That is where the artist being female comes about). THEN he was bullied over the net and all until he made a public apology over national TV all crying and shaking (That is what is horrendous imo) ..... If you think that is appropriate and not something wrong Ira then I am disappointed.

They mocked. There is not doubt about it seeing the early comments and article. You forget that it was hardly about him. Problem was that he also acted as a representative for the whole team so the organization in general got mocked and blamed for the faux pas. And that's why he had to apologize as it was seen a reflection for the whole team. You do not make individual statements when you are not representing yourself individually but as a part of the team.

Rest is the flame war which always results from both sides in such a case. There is nothing appropriate about flame wars but I'm disappointed that you think it needs extra attention because the the person in question was a male and most of the complainants are perceived as feminizes.

Well many of those thread/post ARE drawing attention to the achievement a thing even the media is not focusing on ..... A thread can have dual purpose.

A pointless flame war which was result of some people not being happy with the statement the scientist made with that shirt and his defenders - you cannot stop people from insulting and abusing and trivializing the basic issue which may have irritated those complainers but you want the complainers to suck it up because the guy is a legend.

You say the guy was bullied when he was probably not even online answering anything and it was mostly just a few sites like twitter. It wasn't one sided either since enough guy and "I'm a cool girl not a feminist" group were defending him and the feminists got death threats and insults as well. That lead to escalating things more.

Blind internet reactions make everything big and out of control when they get more attention than they deserved. You don't solve an issue by making people shut up for the irritations they have. You just pay only as much attention to it as the complaint deserves on the occasion.

Comet landing ..... not mars ..... I can very well see the need of discussing that, but being a a layman in this field I would trust on the wider source to provide clues but you know what they are too busy with appeasing the 'feminists' ....

How many feminists commented and how many defenders he got from both sexes? Why this much reaction to an objection to a shirt? It's not like they were picketing outside his house or throwing stones demanding an apology or his head/resignation or going for a candle march in protest. So why exaggerate the feminist reaction to the shirt?

Gathering news is really hard when that happens. (Though I can easily gather that the technology involved definitely has precision remote control, very good adhesion techniques, would be great for dynamic decisions but not so great energy reserves which is kinda expected).

Gathering news is difficult only because more people are posting about the shirt and the evil feminists than actual curiosity about the subject. It's not like feminists have hijacked and hacked into internet to make it about them.

You are choosing to make it about them because some of them didn't like a shirt and said so when you think they should have just sucked it up.

Most of your points were already answers in other posts I made so I don't see a reason to repeat myself. But one should be able to differentiate between individual comments and opinions posted on internet social networking sites and actual feminist concerns with the issues involved which affect them on ground level- The ones which get officially acceptable and included in reform policies or need to be.

If that was the end of it ...... as I said, u might like to look into the thing closely.

I looked into it as close as it picked my interest and read a few articles. And I am already done. Should I fake more interest in it for the sake of looking cool?

But Femme, they just did to a man what they don't want to be done to them. So where does that put their argument?

Men shouldn't be judging because they failed to notice the problem with the print till the images were zoomed in and was pointed out. ( JK Don't get arms in air to fight against feminists)

As for fashion police it will always judge you no matter who you are and what else you do. People always comment negatively when they don't like what you are wearing and if they are going to make a point of it you will hear all kind of tall claims about why everything is wrong with it. Because once they dislike it they come up with all kind of arguments in the favour. Some maybe real, some a stretch and some completely outlandish. Or there wouldn't be lists like this:

(*Remembers Aishvarya Rai's fashion fiasco at Cannes- she didn't bother to pick something too special and just got her clothes from the regular boutique and did her own hair for the event- She was not representing anyone but herself. She got insults and hate for years to come and all the designers and stylists from India blamed her for letting India down as if they were the flaming her in national interest.- that's human nature.)

People are angry at Sasuke marrying Sakura so now she has somehow battered wife syndrome and in an abusive relationship- we got people who turned feminist overnight when just last week before chapter 700 they were making sexist joke. Just pointing out the nature of opinions on social networking sites on net. )

When most women ask not to be judged on the basis of what they are wearing, they usually mean being dressed up in certain way which maybe attractive to a guy doesn't mean the girl is consenting or asking for advances from that guy. That doesn't mean people would let them get away with dressing stupidly not suitable for the occasion. Women are first to comment on other women too in such a case. So there is a difference.

Well Ira ... like it or not Internet have actual consequences now a days.

I dont think Ira people really dont give a hair splitting survey to what their shirt prints may imply ..... Though I agree that the shirt might have been appropriate elsewhere like Comic Con, but no one really needs to give a shit.

Sound exactly like some annoyed men and women are told to shut up when they criticize Miley Cyrus or Nicki Manaj regarding their clothing on basis of how successful, free minded and expressive they are .... Also you think a man would not have been told to shut up in that case too? Dont make it a gender issue where it isnt. Not to mention that since subject himself didn't suppress opinion offered .... dont put the blame it on him.

So words and dress sense justifies shaming now ..... sound similar to certain other arguments...

Did he deserve the hate he got personally- of course not and since he apologized and clarification was made it should be over. But if you are expecting the initial commenters to retract their point- you are wasting your time. For two reasons- because the issue was not that guy in the first place.

The fact that he had to apologize itself is horrendous .....

You must be registered for see images

..... when 'Feminists' sports/sells shirts like that and gets away with expressing ideas like male population should be reduced to 10% of total. This is pure hypocrisy.

Many of the serious feminists were asking why no one checked and asked the guy not to wear such a shirt. For he is a legend. Legends become ideal and get copied. And if something is irritating in a daily routine and on routine basis many women end up fending of sexual aggression of one kind or another at work places.

So ... now that shirt is not only inappropriate for public interview but also sexually aggressive towards females?
Have actually seen the shirt actually? Those are super heroines who are more clad than some real life women 'legends' out there holding guns ... if anything that represents women as both attractive and powerful ... and if women feel threatened by that I have nothing to say.

Just mocked? Did you actually read the said article? It threw around some most weird accusation ever .... Like misogyny and how it oppresses women.

Rest is the flame war which always results from both sides in such a case. There is nothing appropriate about flame wars but I'm disappointed that you think it needs extra attention because the the person in question was a male and most of the complainants are perceived as feminizes.

And I am seriously disappointed that I would not have acted same if a woman in that man's place and someone were throwing really petty accusations against her ..... Its like you basically think just because I am a boy I wont be concerned about wrongfully treated women, like I dont have a mother or sister or other females who are important to my life .... I might have misjudged you.

A pointless flame war which was result of some people not being happy with the statement the scientist made with that shirt and his defenders - you cannot stop people from insulting and abusing and trivializing the basic issue which may have irritated those complainers but you want the complainers to suck it up because the guy is a legend.

Or I might want the complainers to shut up about how the shirt is misogynist and oppressive instead of being just really bad sense of propriety .... It is a petty issue which actually demonized a person who is not really a bad guy at heart and basically character assassinated him.

You say the guy was bullied when he was probably not even online answering anything and it was mostly just a few sites like twitter. It wasn't one sided either since enough guy and "I'm a cool girl not a feminist" group were defending him and the feminists got death threats and insults as well. That lead to escalating things more.

And who started throwing labels first? Who wrote the ridiculous article stating people like him are misogynists and passively oppresses women and thus Women don't enter STEM fields ..... Being a ridiculous claim as that you don't think that was not written to create a outrage in the first place?

As for the ohhh 'death threats over the internet' since when they are even serious? They are mostly internet trolls who cant put two words together and obviously a certain group has a tendency to play the victim.

Blind internet reactions make everything big and out of control when they get more attention than they deserved. You don't solve an issue by making people shut up for the irritations they have. You just pay only as much attention to it as the complaint deserves on the occasion.

So telling people they are wrong and overreacting is telling them to shut up ..... Jup got it. In that sense why are you telling me to shut up?

How many feminists commented and how many defenders he got from both sexes?

Which brings to mind a interesting thing ..... I will link a vid.

Why this much reaction to an objection to a shirt? It's not like they were picketing outside his house or throwing stones demanding an apology or his head/resignation or going for a candle march in protest. So why exaggerate the feminist reaction to the shirt?

It was not only a reaction... but a whole lot of implied accusation thrown at the entirety of the males in STEM (which I am a part of)
... and trust me it sometimes rustles some serious jimmies.

Gathering news is difficult only because more people are posting about the shirt and the evil feminists than actual curiosity about the subject. It's not like feminists have hijacked and hacked into internet to make it about them.

I dont think I read personal blogs and vlogs for the required info .... the legit sources are keeping silent (I guess in order not to appear in any way glorifying Matt) or posting articles about the shirt for god knows why.

You are choosing to make it about them because some of them didn't like a shirt and said so when you think they should have just sucked it up.

And the "feminists" wanted to ban the word bossy ... and none gave a real **** .... Why this is different? Because the entirety of field was implied to be some sort of monsters because someone wore a wrong shirt. If this goes on it will be like Sweden where "Feminists" want to ban male urinals in public Restrooms. You wont see it but this is generally alienating people from the Feminist movement who are eventually mixing up priorities.

Most of your points were already answers in other posts I made so I don't see a reason to repeat myself. But one should be able to differentiate between individual comments and opinions posted on internet social networking sites

Are you actually pretending or really blind to the fact that the shitstorm began from some articles? Raging on social media is everyday business.

and actual feminist concerns with the issues involved which affect them on ground level- The ones which get officially acceptable and included in reform policies or need to be.

Then please let their voices be heard, people would love a just cause to rally behind.

I looked into it as close as it picked my interest and read a few articles. And I am already done. Should I fake more interest in it for the sake of looking cool?

No more than you have to .... I am not oppressing you to do so forcefully.

Men shouldn't be judging because they failed to notice the problem with the print till the images were zoomed in and was pointed out. ( JK Don't get arms in air to fight against feminists)

You should know that Men would proudly wear a Wonder Woman T shirt (Who is equally scantily clad) or even dress as wonder woman because of the very reason that they admire her. Geek culture does not quite have the mainstream mindset since most of them are basically 'social rejects'.

Compare the two ... and see if it is Fashion Policing or Headless Moral Facism.

If it was only a fashion disaster.

People are angry at Sasuke marrying Sakura so now she has somehow battered wife syndrome and in an abusive relationship- we got people who turned feminist overnight when just last week before chapter 700 they were making sexist joke. Just pointing out the nature of opinions on social networking sites on net. )

Meh they should have seen it coming .... But honestly believe me Ira I know what filth is and what are the small steps in a paradigm shift.

Or let them go on to get embarrassed .... Many a times I have seen my female classmates go on blissfully unaware that their undergarments are exposed which their female friends didnt bother to notify. I despite being uncomfortable as it is had to notify and guard her (with by back turned ofc) while she rectified. This could have been done on purpose for Matt too (though he is known to be Wacky) ....

PS I really want to say something to you Ira ... Being a well educated woman in our shithole of a country it is very understandable that you hold deep allegiance towards Feminism, even I did ... But do realize that unlike the early waves, in this era it is becoming infested with certain parasites (The so called extremists) whose loud rants drowns the voice of reason and alienates people with their tactics (thus created a new group called Egalitarians for those who lost faith) and if allowed they would eventually eat away what Feminism really stood for ... It is already becoming more about Urinals and shirts and public opinion on social media than women who truly suffer .... I hope you try to realize that you cant let these "Feminists" ruin what that was once wonderful.

I cant explain it well but this vid might shed some light though he is not absolutely correct but he has the gist:

Get this: this one radical feminazi once claimed that dudes defeating dudettes in a video game is a form of rape, because the girl is overpowered by the man.

That would mean I have systemically raped more men, demons, angels, aliens, lizards, dead bodies etc than women ..... What is my sexuality then?

UD covers this perfectly.

There's a difference between a feminazi and a feminist.

A feminist is someone who supports womens' rights. Simple as that. Thinks girls in poorer countries should go to school, is opposed to those music videos that consist of like, three minutes of boob shots, etc. Equality is cool, guys. Feminism is cool.

A feminazi is not a feminist. Feminists believe in equal rights for us, feminazis just make us look stupid. Feminazis believe that all men are idiots, wearing a bra is a symbol of oppression (personally I find bras comfortable), shaving our legs is apparently showing that we GIVE INTO MALE PRESSURE TO BE ATTRACTIVE HOLY SHIT, snowmen must be called "snowpeople", and that any song that mentions a girl is supporting rape or whatever. Is apparently against sexism, making them a .

A feminazi is a sexist. A feminist is a supporter of womens' rights.

This is pretty much everything I wanted to write. Feminism is needed in underdeveloped, third world countries. Heck, in many Muslim countries where the tradition of 'buying and selling' female children and infanticide still prevails. Where women are killed over adultery and men walk free. We need it in such areas, more than most of you can even think possible.

On the other hand, despite the fact that I loathe objectification, I find women using it themselves to sell products and climbing social and financial ladders. Then it becomes a double-edged sword. If you yourself indulge in it openly, you cannot expect the opposite *** to not dabble in it as well. This is a mixed *** world. I think we are eons away from asexual mars and venus.

As for the topic, then these women are ****ing stupid. Laud the guy for his effort. The art colouring is fantastic. Some of the poses are symmetrically incorrect though. My only criticism.

^ this guy covered what I wanted to say quite in detail and well.

If ever stupid twitter think-piece is representation of the rest of the population then forget nuclear threats- for the real threat to the existence of humanity is Twitter.

Sigh ..... that person was basically a apologist. Not to mention it is very very stupid judging reality with a hypothetical scenario (Expecially if it makes a lot of presumptions .... and tbh that writer had his mind set) that really ignores the intricacies of real life.

I basically I get the vibe that you agree with the general sentiment but wont say it loud as u want to keep yourself clean from shit.

PS You by the way dodged a lot other finer points. But nvm its useless, I really did misjudge.

If you cant see that the so called "twitter think-piece" (Also you should be aware Tumblr is way way worse piece of bullexcreta) is slowly spreading its infection and slowly having larger real life consequences .... then you wont have anything to blame when a amputation is mandatory.

Lack of dress sense according to occasion would do that to you. If your friend gifts you a lingerie next, would you wear it while presenting your science project?
Just out of curiosity would you be saying the same thing she was a woman scientist and was being criticized for dressing provocatively instead of celebrating her achievement?

Apologist, huh? So we are going to hide behind a Strawman argument and ignore the valid points?

The hypothetical scenario is only to put the perspectives clear but in civilized and objective manner. You don't want to notice the problem which escalated everything and grind your own axe because of other irritations, then you are not really much different than those feminists who created a mountain of a molehill.

For me here are two different issues involved.

1-Do I think the case deserved this much hype or rage- nope and timing of addressing the issue if at all, was off too. And it's clear some people went totally off the track and some completely stupid.

2- But I would be lying if I say that shirt wasn't off putting at all. It wouldn't deter me in entering STEM or hate the person or wish him any harm but it would make me apprehensive against such a guy a bit- at least till I know him better. Because micro aggression isn't a myth.

Thing is that sexual aggression is so embedded in out daily lives that people do not notice it -not till it escalates to something markedly visible - like a fish swimming in a dirty water thinks there is noting wrong with it. Sala, Sasura or even more clearly sexually charged abuses directed at mothers and sisters are norm and just another way of male bonding for many.( some have even started to copy it to feel all empowered silly as it may be)

Doesn't mean women do not ignore it most of the times. I ignored it when a professor in university casually felt my upper arm and told me I had a good built and should try to join some kind of armed forces- while standing a little too close.

Not something I could clearly accuse him off and throw a fit but there were only 3 females in the class and geophysics isn't really a field which welcomes women all that much. So he could easily say he was giving me a better advice and since he suggested police force or air force, he was not being misogynistic sexist either. Being too close or feeling the arm was him being innocent?... not that I ever saw him giving any unasked for career counseling to any of the 30 guys in class. But then the bias was in favour of females he was taking extra care of me... maybe I should have sent him a thank you note... the ungrateful me almost ran away the moment I got a chance to shake him off.

He pulled something similar again during the field trip- calling me some 10-15 steps away from the rest of the students group and whispering in my ear some nonsensical pointless question( whether some guy from other group had joined us without permission).. I returned to group only to be stared at by others and being asked what he wanted. I told them and none of them seemed to believe me. There were whispers and glances that left me in rather awkward position for the rest of the day. Some more blunt ones pointedly asked if that was all..

Third time when he sent someone asking me to come to staff room, 4 girls decided it was time for showing some aggression of our own and joined me. And you know what- it was an unsaid plan. Obviously the first two incidences were noticed and talked about and it wasn't just me being paranoid, and while 2 of them were my regular classmates, the others simply volunteered to accompany me when they heard I was called again.

So instead of me alone, 5 of us went to the staff room. He asked why they were there. They named another professor and said they wanted to meet him. The other teacher was obviously not there and despite it being pointed out, they refused to leave and said they would wait outside and remained by the door in clear view. He told me some random stuff as to why he had asked me to come - completely unimportant. By chance the other named professor made his appearance soon and asked them and they made up something about the syllabus. But the tension was obvious. Not sure if other teacher had guessed something was up or what but, after that the professor stopped trying to get personal with me.

But in an ideal environment any of us shouldn't have to counter a teacher in this way...

There are countless such small incidence of micro level sexual aggression, I see in court, while commuting etc. For every extra cautious and and courteous nice guy there is a jerk who would drop inappropriate hints just because I am a female.

These are small irritation but they build up. Not all aggression is sexist sometimes it's cast/race/religion based (probably you can identify these yourself) but I have seen enough of it to learn to spot them even if I ignore them. Rather I 'm trained to ignore them. I am told to keep my mouth shut because if I complain to my family even, the male members may feel compelled to take the issue up and it may escalate in something which would hurt them. If nothing else still it would be taking a risk of immediate ostracization among peers on various levels.

So yeah sexual objectification, and aggression are not very welcoming in daily routine in an office work environment. Working with people with in your face attitude with half naked images which have obvious titillating context whole day long is not very welcoming atmosphere especially if that person also have tendency to make sexual jokes a little too much or tries to hit on you regularly. One may learn to live with it like slaves learn to ignore weight of shackles if they have been wearing for far too long but that's what it is.

If some females jump the gun or try to play victim even when they are not, they sure are a problem for the rest of us who have to deal with more problems for real and in more severe ways. The boy who cried wolf effect ... So obviously not many women are happy with twitter escalation but sexual aggression and sexist misogyny exist even in the Western world.

You showed that Tshirt./// What about the male urinals in the shape of female body parts or mouth? Amidst all this argument, someone claimed crazy feminazies were getting male urinals removed..

If they didn't start to look like or feminazies wouldn't be able to get them removed so as long as you are not pissing in a they are probably safe.

Or maybe they agree with . ...

Now a lot of guy do not agree with the definition of sexual objectification or don't feel it's really a problem so there is nothing much to say. Doesn't change the fact that other group may not be that happy. So all one can do is be aware of personal sensibilities and not go out of their way to ignore it and the offended group doesn't need to be reacting so much unless it's really hurting.

As a man I admire the female body more than a male body. It's friggin' beautiful. Damn.

I'd wear that shirt.
