I read the plot for the new Naruto movie and I don't see how it could possibly be considered canon. To me canon means that there's a connection between the plot of the series and the plot of the movie. Based on what I read the only questions this movie will probably answer are related to the hyuuga clan. However, those answers aren't necessarily essential to the development of the primary plot behind the series which is more about naruto's development as a character and the role he plays in his community and the symbolic relationship between him and sasuke. Us seeing an older naruto in itself doesn't make the series cannon and the term "connects to the original material" is vague to me. He could create a movie about the nara clan, or some other side clan and it would still technically be "connected to the original material". This seems like a deviation of his other movies the only difference is everyone is an adult.

That said it's supposed to connect the series to the next era and they called it the finale to the series. All that sounds canon to me. :|

you answered your own question.

No movie has went out of their way to describe a relationship to the source material outside of the movie itself.

Yo said your opinion of a cannon movie is a connection which was an official statement.

The movie specifically says its a connection to the manga and extends beyond.

Movies and fillers can be based off the manga examples would be road to ninja and the chiakara arc.

But key words were listed right along side that statement and those words were

Shinju
Madara
infinite tsukyomi
kaguya

If anything its at least leaning towards cannon

The key phrase in that paragraph is leaning towards And if someone is going to make such a claim then they could at least substantiate it with an explanation regarding how. If those connections are irrelevant to the main premise behind the series then at that point it becomes filler. Hell, that's what a filler is, or part of it anyway.

Yupp that is a perfect example.

I didn't claim FMA was all that great either, in fact that's why I hated the ending to the series. To me the movie would have been better if they just stayed with the premise of the series and left the whole war thing alone.

It's going to take some serious jimmy rustling and anus ravaging for these guys to get the memo -- the movie isn't canon.

The plot alone is proof, like the OP said; it just screams filler.

Where did you read this?

Movie is going to focus on the Hyuga/moon, This guy allegedly kidnaps Hanabi and Naruto,Sakura,Sai,Hinata, and Shikamaru are sent to rescue her.

Translated from an orginal text someone on this forum had. I saw a few other sources confirming this on google as well. such as

Which is where alot of people on this site got the released designs for the characters.

if Kishi wrote the script, work on it or even just approved it, it's canon, nothing more to say.
people are being mean because they don't agree with his choices, sorry i don't understand this kind of logic, Naruto is Kishi's work not ours :|

If thats what you think fine. But assuming something without seeing it will make you miss out on the actual thing.

I'll probably hear about it on here. Either way, you can already tell it will only have canonical aspects based on the plot. The plot itself is indicative of a filler.

To me those things in and of themselves don't mean jack. If kishi made a film about talking naruto cupcakes and announced "hey everyone...I wrote and directed this film" Would you consider it canon??

yes i would because without Kishi, Naruto would simply not exist!

we are not talking about something alive changing by itself, he is the one making it alive, if he changes his mind about whatever, you can like it or hate it yes but it's canon lol

canon = Kishi involved, it doesn't mean fandom approved at all!
