This will be a long response. I'll simply give my thoughts on some of the points you brought up.
No, no and no. 9 out of every 10 fans don't think the show is flawless and I know that by simply being in the One Piece fandom. Sure, the fandom has its extremist, but what fandom doesn't? If you're expecting every fan to be over critical about every minor detail, then, well, that's simply unrealistic. Honestly, I'm sure you won't have any trouble interacting with the One Piece fandom once you get into the series (considering you do).
I'd have to refer back to every fandom having its extremist. Seriously, it simply can't be helped. There are One Piece fans that will put down every Manga/Anime in the world because they feel One Piece is simply that good. The same can be said for some Naruto fans, or Bleach fans, or Fairy Tail fans, or HxH fans, etc. They are simply fanboys and I think we all know trying to have a logical discussion with a fanboy is like trying to have a logical discussion with a dog... it simply can't be done.
Lol no. You don't seem to understand my situation. Literally everywhere I go, no matter the site, no matter the people, it's always "one piece is perfection and everything else is bad or mediocre compared to it." It is like this on all the anime and manga sites I use as well as social media sites and I've grown weary of it. I actually left one or two sites I loved because of it. I can't stand to converse or even be around people like that, and don't tell me there are only a few of them because there are literally thousands, especially in regards to one piece.
Not quite sure how to respond to this one. They simply push the series because it's the face of their brand right now. Companies like this needs something that they consistently count on and One Piece has given them that stability since it pretty much started.
I see. And what happens when One Piece nears an end that fans don't favor or Oda suddenly takes a direction a large group dislikes? What happens if Oda is killed or just becomes tired of the manga and wishes to rush and finish it right away? I'm sorry, but not even one piece will last forever. Everything ends. One way or another. And putting it on a pedestal, advertising it over everything else is just degrading in my opinion. It just shows that they really do only care about money and not their fans. But for me that's no surprise.
One Piece, to my knowledge, came when SJ was looking for the "next" series. They were still transitioning from the post Dragonball era and needed something to take its place. That series just happened to be One Piece.
Yes, and now look at DBZ. It was a great series and still has its iconic traits and fans. However, these days several seem to bash it and call it childish and linear. Toriyama also grew tired of it and stopped and when shounen jump and the anime producers disliked this and wanted to make more bucks, they made their own series that many regard as a disaster. In other words, things happened and it didn't age well with anime and manga fans, but you probably believe nothing of the sorts could ever happen to one piece, right? How about Naruto and Bleach? Lols.
My final thoughts:
Honestly, only watch One Piece if you're willing to do so with an open mind. The problems you gave weren't necessarily problems with the series itself but outside factors.
Well, technically I do have my criticisms of the series. The problem is, the moment I say anything negative about it, even minor and completely objective, which I always am, I am completely bashed or called a troll by the same aforementioned fans. I don't like tyo follow series by myself your see. I like to read or watch them with friends and acquaintances and chat about them. I don't only do this with manga and anime, but books, films and television series as well. If I can't do that with one piece, it kind of takes a lot of the enjoyment of it out, whether the series is amazing or not.
Like I've mentioned time and time again, all fandoms have their fair share of over zealous fans. Ultimately, however, you are the one that decides if you allow the fanboys/fangirls affect your overall enjoyment of the series. I hope you give One Piece a try and enjoy it as much as I have if you do.
Well, I'll try lols.
I don't get the point of this thread. And aren't you the guy who negged that guy with Kakuzu avy the other day with a disgusting message(as per that dude) and were posting in that thread with such hate towards the thread's OP calling him names?(what I saw) So I find it funny when you say you "can't stand people who regard things as perfect because there is no such thing in this world" as you lashed out at him for criticising Naruto series Lol Again your 9/10 thinking a series is flawless point makes me wonder whether you read something for enjoyment or whether you read it so that you can argue with the party that disagrees with you. Read it if you like it or don't bother with it really.
@Gorosei. Do you see what I mean now lols?
@Shóūri, no. I gave that person negative rep for blatantly bashing the series. That was all. There is a difference between criticizing something and bashing the whole thing out of anger when something doesn't go the way you want it. Furthermore, the same person was using a double account, which is also prohibited and made the thread to also get post counts as he was continually posting after every single reply and going off-topic.
The point of this thread is basically my distaste in the attitude of the majority of one piece fans and that if I can't relate or communicate with them, that leaves a bad impression of the series, since in my opinion, the attitudes of a medium's fans often reflect the series' concepts. Furthermore, I like to relate to and converse with media fans rather than just going "solo." I'm sorry if this is difficult for you to understand, but it's just the way I'm wired.
