Due to the latest murder rampage here in the US, I am once again faced with this question. Should American citizens have the right to own a gun? To be quite honest a few years ago I'd say without hesitation, of course, why not. Though if people like Elliot Rogers have no problem getting ahold of a gun legally, than I have to question this law.
It would seem that we'd be more focused on protecting our citizens here in America by making gun owners go through various background, and mental illness checks. I honestly think the reason that our government hasn't made this a law yet is because we'd loose so much money. The NRA probably pays off well known politicians to speak on their behalf. If America decided to put laws into effect that made it harder to obtain fire arms, there would probably be a whole lot less people owning them, especially because such a high percentage of Americans are on some sort of medication for depression, or some sort of other psycho-active substance that effects our serotonin receptors.
I belive the way our government allows doctors to feed it's citizens with these meds also causes mental problems. I can tell you from my first hand experiences that I've been on some of these SSRI's and they actually make you even more psychotic, and suicidal. This in no way gives somebody the excuse to go shooting up innocent victims though.
I can say that I no longer take medication for depression, and I'm glad I don't. America hands out guns, and psych meds like a parent rewarding their child for good behavior with candy.
