The massacre happened precicely because Hashirama's legacy faded. No one willing hard enough to plead with the Uchiha and ask forgiveness. The lack of tolerence and acceptance is what lead to the Uchiha's unrest and thus the massacre.

Madara and Hashirama had a vision what to do after the fighting was stopped, they wanted to warring clan to come together as one in peace and prosperity. Nardo and Sauce intended to change the system for what it is. The difference being the action taken towards the goal. I don't hate Sauce for his method, but to say Naruto doesn't want to change it really had me to respond to it.

This trend has been going on for more than 80 years now. Naruto is only repeating the same old failed cycle. Wanting peace and getting rid of hatred. Communication and getting rid of violence. The only reason why Naruto's wish will happen is because this is a Shounen and also because this manga is named after him, but even if his peace comes true it does not mean that violence or hatred will go away.
