It's not about being realistic or unrealistic, it's about what's best for that world. You can't ignore Naruto's way because it's the same as many main characters and that you "outgrew" them.
Sasuke's way is what the shinobi has been doing throughout the generations. Villages fighting for superiority which leads to revenge and that leads to more revenge, thus continuing the cycle of hatred. The reason the will of fire was unsuccessful throughout the years wasn't because it was wrong, it was because no one wanted to cooperate with Hashirama or anyone else who had the will of fire.
Naruto is trying to stop the cycle of hatred. Even if he can't get rid of it completely, his way is the only way that can make a difference in the shinobi world. This war is proof. Now that the shinobi in this war has cooperated with each other, the Kage has seen that what they were doing before was wrong. They said it themselves that they also want to get rid of the hatred in this world. Every shinobi wants to get rid of the hatred in the world, but they are just weak willed, because Naruto never gave up and continue down this path, people started to see hope.
