We are talking about old hiruzen. Even so Orochimaru used 2 immortal hokage (even if they were weak, still the freaking hokage) and was planning on having Kimmimaro as back up as well. So its obvious that he respected Hiruzens Abilities other wise he would have not gone thru that trouble ( he even tried to get Minato). Three HOkages for 1 man. By no means did he think it was going to be easy.

And this is the same dude that took on 4-tailed Naruto with no arms and found the battle "entertaining".

Orhimaru > Hiruzen: Probable based on what he Thrid said, even though he was speculating. BY no means was it easy for either side.
Orochimaru < Young HIruzen: 10 years younger and HIruzen would have won.

Overall, Hiruzen does have the better battle capabilities

Enma, however, says that he was "miserable" compared to his prime. Enma's been at Hiruzen's side since even before the Sannin were trained by Hiruzen. He's seen Prime Hiruzen.

And an old Hiruzen who was supposedly pathetically weak stalemated a young, healthy, possibly prime Orochimaru and two Edo Hokages, which were at least Jonin level.

Sucks, but the truth hurts. By simple logic, a younger Hiruzen would have beaten Orochimaru handily.
