Are you telling me that it took the death of one the sannin, one of the strongest ninjas in the world, to make Naruto grow up?

That sucks! Naruto's such a child! >.<
Irrelevant mate! It pretty much took the death of his father to grow up; the fact that his father(figure) was one of the greatest and most legendary shinobi has little to do with why Naruto would've matured from the experience.

Why can't he just learn that he's gotta grow up some time on his own? It didn't need the death of Jiraiya >_<

You've got a point with the Sage Mode thing, but Naruto would probly learn Sage Mode soon anyway, because the 4th did while Jiraiya was still alive.
You can't really force every kid to mature on their own, without help. You can grow up on your own, but you won't exactly mature! :p

Xero you said it very good!!!

BioBushman, im disappointed my friend. Why did you think that Jman's death was in vain?
I think that it is necessary for some of the good guys to kick the bucket in a manga, it just shows that its not always the good guys that win a fight.

I think there is much more to jman's death, like most people said already, and I agree to that, is that Naruto needs to realize that its not a perfect little world, and that he can get past that comfort zone, where he is in currently. To realize that he needs to "protect" and take up more responsibility.

On the technical side, I think that the people must not just stare at the message that was written on Pa toads back. The fact that Pa and Ma toad was with Jman when he fought Pain makes a major difference, they have seen some of pains tricks, and knows how he fights, thus Pa toad had the ability to train Naruto to counter those techniques. Giving him more of an advantage than what J had.

I think the Jmans death also affected Tsunade's point of view. It was a major blow to her. I think that she might have matured more from Jmans death than Naruto :D!

Well all in all I liked the Jman, and he is a very skilled Shinobi, that gave hope to alot of people, and his death inspired alot of people to become stronger ect Tsunade and Naruto, I also think Kakashi. And it is needed for the Manga to take a more definite twist. Where you get a teacher teaching a student, the student turning roger. The teacher teaching another student. The previous student surpassing the previous generation by killing the teacher. And the grand finale, the two students good and bad facing off to see who is the strongest.

Brilliant!!! :D

Just as the title asks, what did Jiraiya die for?

He went to gain information on the leader of Akatsuki. All he came up with was "The real one isn't with them". But, the Konoha ninja all figured that out on their own anyway, so, in the end, wasn't this information useless?

Wasn't Jiraiya's death totally useless to Konoha?

All of the information that they have on Pein is mainly being gained DURING Pein's assault on Konoha.

Jiraiya didn't have to die.
i disagree, jiriya held up pein and stopped him from attacking konoha before naruto's sage training >.>

Ish teh doctor!!

But come on, Naruto's not exactly lived in a little fantasy world his whole life. I mean, he was an orphan, and he was ostracized by his entire village, and yet still wants to protect them with his life.

Yeah, you're right about Tsunade... that was a good point. ^_^

Jiraiya died for truth, justice, and the pursuit of happiness. And because he ate too much apple pie. Goodbye Jiraiya, you scamp.

Edit: And throw peace in there somewhere. Or something similar.

Okay I know this is sorta of out of date and it has been a while since all of this has happened but, I think it would be easier to clear this up know.

So first of all, Jiraiya DID have to die, but technically no one wanted him to die so there could have been a better way to get Naruto to, "Mature." Also considering in the end **Spoiler** of this cluster **** Naruto wins because of his FATHER, Minato... Seriously, If Jiraiya has waited and stayed behind to help train Naruto I don't think he would have died, BUT it wouldn't have been as interesting and as intense, also I don't think we would have been able to see Naruto meet this father (Which was pretty cool).

Also Danzo wouldn't have become Hokage, or maybe he still would have since Tsunade was too hasty.

Jiraiya had to die as I said in the beginning because 1. His death was interesting, 2. His death took up how many mangas? 3. Woops no 3...

Hell no one wanted him to die like wtf, he was my fav character, he was the best, hell he was hilarious, In my opinion he made the manga Naruto COMPLETE.

Him dieing made the Manga LONGER, it also added some interesting twists...

ALSO who ever thinks that Konoha was going to be attacked next was wrong, since they had to get Killer Bee first if anyone actually remembered what they said about needing him last or else the Statue will break or something like that, or Am I ahead of my self?

In conclusion, HELL YEAH it sucks he died.
They could have made it so he didn't die, but hell that would mean more thinking and crap no one knows how to do that nowadays.
It was interesting his fight and hell it was a pretty chills fight learning more about Jiraiya was amazingly cool.
His fight also let everyone know how powerful Pein was and that they had to be prepared, hmmm wait didn't Konoha get destroyed cause Pein got pissed off, oh yeah then cause a BOOK a FIRGGEN BOOK Jiraiya wrote the city and its people came back alive.
And Thats about it sure it helped Naruto mature but wasn't his immatureness one of the best parts of the manga Naruto? -I think so!

Sorry for my story long explanation.

-Short summary, if you really wan't to read a short one and if you memory is that confubled that you couldn't recall what I wrote up there here it is:
Jiraiya died, for 1.Longer Manga 2.Interesting fight 3.Naruto to learn sage mode 4.Learn about Jiraiya 5.Show some of Peins abilities.

Heh again sorry for it being so long.

Peace~~

Just trying to make sure I'm on the same page as the rest of you.

J-man dying did suck but I don't think it was in vain his heart did stop and he was still able to come back and write the message.

Pretty massive bump

No, that's incorrect. Pain was getting ready to leave for Konoha when Jiraiya interrupted his rain sensoring technique. It's just that he had to prepare again and the Killer Bee fight had taken place, so it looks it was happening in order.

It was a plot device, he didn't have to die, he could have retreated when he saw all 6 pain bodies. It ended up making Naruto stronger
Pretty much this. He could've retreated with Ma through the toads but he 'chose' to stay and find out more about Pain's secrets. He could've left, trained Naruto in Sage Mode in preparation for the incoming attack and the plot wouldn't have differentiated much except with his life still intact. His death allowed for Naruto to grow up more and all that.

Humm yeah I just checked it has been a while since I read those managas so I forgot about that bit, I'm not a big Naruto fan anymore but I keep up to date with the mangas and anime, and the anime this week just made me think, "Did he really have to die?" But yeah your right they did catch him but its unusual that they wanted to do both the 8 and 9 tails at once...

And also it woudl have taken Pein a bit longer to do the rain sensoring, then traveling to Konoha is anothing thing, with JMans help Naruto could have learned sage mode maybe faster not sure cause the training for it is sorta of weird.

JMan could have escaped with one of the bodies without dieing, his death was pointless in the end he had a body he sent the body back and wanted to die honorably? Even though he could not speak I think he still could have sent The body and also ESCAPED while in sage mode... He had his forcefield-shield-thingy up and he could have just peaced he could have gone into one of his froggies.

And the one who helped Naruto the most was his father, Minato cause he stopped the 9 tails from taking over. Sure it helped him mature but he didn't exactly need to he was already pretty much mature. ALSO his immaturity is with him always running after Sasuke so he never got rid of his immaturity. Thats what I think

Yeah I really have to read the mangas again now... I sorta want to but there is so much talking in the mangas that it gets a bit boring during some parts.

Anyways, Peace~~

And ty for the bump compliment? haha xD
