Not at all.

They treated the Going Merry like a crew member and thus were sadden by its death.

Also Oda admitted to breaking down and crying when drawing Merry's final moments.
Seriously he broke down over a fictional ship. I can see the story for the ship being very special for him but not enough to break down and cry, but then again it just means something diffirent for him.

the one piecetards are funny they attack naruto because they're buthurt that naruto has more attention than one piece
and say dumbs things like "plotehole kishi is a dumbass naruto sucks "just in hope that the naruto fans will drope it and that one piece can shine :p a great example watch that idiot on youtube who calls himself codeprovider he trys too hard xd

They should hang in there till the summer maybe than one piece will shine if kishi doesn't make a part 3XD
that's gonna make them mad lol

lol one piece has no plote holes the first episode had a plote hole

Shanks probably the strongest guy in one piece loses his arm to a monster wale
that shit didn't make any sense.

1:Ace death didn't make any sense fire is hotter than magma lol only stupid people would believe that
2:The whole Garp thing lifting Billions of Tons is a logical Plot Hole meaning the ship would sink with that kind of weight on it.
3: Mr 2 sacrificed himself to let others escape from Impel Down - he was left alone, surrounded by several thousands Marine soldiers and Magellan (Magellan even asked him if he had any last words) - and yet recently in the manga he was shown to have somehow survived
4:Jinbe didn't die from having a hole (it was larger than his head) where his heart was supposed to be lol
5:It was said that a devil fruit user can never eat another devil fruit (not for teach)
6:Sanji breaking his leg bone

no plotehole right
You must be registered for see images

i can go one but i'll have to do all the chapters that oda made lol
1. Magma can smother fire and put it out. If Molten rock is poured on fire the fire will be put out as the magma will prevent oxygen from reaching it (and fire needs oxygen to continue burning). Also magma has more thermal energy than fire...Basic physics
2. That's true
3. Has no plot relavence
4. Tsunade was cut in half with a tree in the middle, madara had a sword through his chest, naruto took a chidori to the chest lol you want me to go on??
5. Ya it was also said that it is an ulitimate rule that once a jichuriki gets his/her bijuu extracted they die it was also said that once you use rinne tensei you die(not for obito or naruto)
6. OMG he got injured

Well there is just no arguing with Naruto(series) wankers coz I mean have u seen the hatethreads of naruto and sasuke fans, these guys spent 2013(from 1jan to 49december) trading insults so fellow OP(so called tards) we out of our league here these pple's brain damage, imbecelness knows no bounds(cool folk not included, the imbecels know I mean them). Im a guy who loves both manga so call me a village idiot or whatever but my opinion is that OP is the better manga and when Iask myself if i was the author of one piece or Oda's constult wld I change anything, my answer is non of the important stuff bar Shanks loosing his arm in that situation but if I ask this same question while looking at naruto, honestly yah a lot of stuff alpha point being lets not blow the powerlvls as if we are competing with bleach(part 1 was Ok man but oart 2 with its tbb's and even the water justuz guyz where creating oceans here while in part1 Edo Tobirama did this small puddle by now's starndards and it was all like wow and woa did u see that, I feel bad for Hiruze) Alpha point2 dont make the final war b versus 1guy and a slew of dead pple that get undone by a few words man(i mean the edoz as far as talk/phsyc no justu is cornend well if u get to a point where u can coin a phrase for a distinct flaw then man I shldnt flog a dead horse coz its that bad).

All in I respect Kishi and think at one time he had the right stuff, its only his fans(on this bass for some odd reasons) that i find appaling more so than the flaws in the story.
I want to really see how Kishi ends Naruto(why did he name it so coz its all about 2or more pple).
Closing worss 1piss>Naruto(series)
Naruto(sama)>>>>>>>>>>>>Sasuke

(just wait and watch this thread from that last line alone it will reach one thousand posts).

100% agreed. That is the thing that annoys me the most about OP.

For the people who are defending it; if he wanted the characters for later, then why did he even make them "die" in the first place. Especially Pell, he had a great death but now he's just back for no reason. What purpose will he really serve in the rest of the story?

Banned 4 people from this thread. If the only argument you have in a discussion is just insulting people, then don't take part in it.

Also people stick to the topic of the thread, this is not about which series is the best of the two, that's by default a personal opinion.

On topic I'm actually quite confused about what you're now exactly referring to. You are talking about an aspect of Naruto that's better than that of OP, but I find it really unclear what now that specific aspect is.

I've also always had my doubts about Pell. Even seen after OP standards, he should have not survived that blast, in his case that was a bit too much and yes Oda has always had difficulty to kill any kind of character. However if it's about more or less deaths, then this posts sums it all up:

More deaths don't make for a better story.

Oda does Quality over quantity for when death happens it strikes a cord within you.

Kishi however does quantity over quality and makes death more frequent and thus looses all meaning.
It's completely personal whether you prefer more or less deaths, so it can hardly be called an aspect that's better in Naruto than OP as someone for someone who prefers less deaths, it's the complete opposite. Oda indeed tries to make some kind of a happy ending for each arc. If you don't like that, well that's a personal opinion as I personally prefer that Oda writes it like that.

On top of that, it has already been said several times before, Ace's death alone outweighs nearly all Naruto deaths together. Kishi pretty much screwed over the entire concept of 'death'. Ace is dead, utterly dead, he will never return. In Naruto however Kakashi, Shizune and everyone else who died during Pein's raid just got revived like nothing happened because the Rinnegan stands outside life and death and then we're not even speaking about the whole Edo Tensei stuff. Dying in Naruto almost became a joke. He kills off mainly nameless shinobi by the hundreds, old people (Jiraiya, Sarutobi), characters that only served a specific purpose at one point and then outlived that purpose (Zabuza, Haku) and characters that didn't even make any sense (Hayate, Neji). Then he decides to edo most of them, if screwing over his own rules by pulling a Deux Ex Machina out of the blue to save the hokages of the belly of the Death God. Still one of my biggest dislikes I've had about Naruto after Obito = Tobi.

Sorry, but then I prefer the way Oda does things. He lets many of his characters survive the most ridiculous situations, but at least he didn't reduce the act of dying to some minor concept. When they're dead, they stay dead. So I can hardly see that as an aspect Naruto is better in than OP.

But you then say it's not about that? What is it about then? You are talking about 'logic', which is already a very loose term when applied to a fantasy manga series. But it seems you simply want a reason, not matter how messed up that reason might be, but then you can easily assume them for most of the examples you just summed up.

Pell, as I said, was over the top, Bon Clay however was never said to have died, we just assumed it. Se there was nothing illogical about it, Magellan could have just taken him prisoner again. That Wiper survived lightning attacks and more than one impact dail recoil isn't strange either. The power scale of OP is far more diverse, twisted and larger than that of Naruto. That you can die of one recoil is nothing more than a standard effect for a regular human, Wiper was not even remotely a regular human and neither was CP9. They trained their entire life rigorously, Lucci survived canon fire nearly point-blank. They were beaten, severely injured, but they weren't dead. Zoro already survived all the way back during the Arlong arc when he lost the majority of his blood supply. That in itself is the logic, they are so strong that they can survive stuff like that.

So you are stuck there too. I find that kind of reasoning far batter than pulling Edo Tensei or Rinnegan revival.

I really don't understand what you mean with this 'aspect'. Kishi killed characters when their use was over, they server their purpose and then gone with them. Zabuza and Haku only served to teach Naruto his nindo and then they could buss off. At least Oda recycles his characters and provides development for them. This way he gives them the chance of being characters in their own right and not just some tool for other characters that can be disposed of. I thought Bellamy was dead too, but then he survived albeit with a scar (and most of his crew died) and played again a role hundreds of chapters after he was supposed to have died while having changed. On Dressrosa he was very different than he was on Jaya. Same thing could happen with Pell. I don't expect him to play any kind of major role, however it is confirmed he is going to attend the Reverie, an event that should be very important for the plot.

If I need to choose between OP, where Oda uses the characters to nurture the plot and the OP universe as a whole at the cost of some characters not dying that easily or Naruto, where the concept of death barely caries any weight, then I choose OP. I seriously see it happening that when this is all over, Kishi is just going to resurrect everyone who died during the war. OP might have some issues with illogical deaths, but the Naruto equivalent isn't any better in the least IMO.

Well... to be fair to Naruto.

Though, neither am I any fan of character death for the sake of forcing emotion, I prefer it for every death to have a meaning to the story.

But to be fair! Naruto and One Piece are trying to convey two very different things right now.

One Piece has a sort of adventure structure, where a crew of joly pirates go from island to island exsperiencing new adventures each place, that's the jest of it.

Naruto, right now, is trying to convey war.
It's about a ninja war going on, transforming and destroying the world the manga inhabits, and well.. people die in war.
It is even trying to convey the meaninglessly of it all, and the big tragedy of war, where people destroy each other for reasons so obscure that they are hardly any reason any-more.
While One Piece is often a kind of acid trip, Naruto wants to be a bit more grounded, and right now, wants to be a bit darker than that.

Whether they succeed or not, can be discussed, but.. it makes sense for that manga, giving the context of the story and what it tries to convey, to have more deaths.

That the dead don't stay dead though is... another subject I don't want to dig into.

And, it's not really like One Piece does not have dead characters, they just.. kind of.. all died in flash backs before the main story even takes place. But deaths of other people have certainly helped form our current characters motivations and personalities. I mean shesh, where to start? Does any-one have any alive parents in this manga!?

Zoros childhood friend is dead, Usopp's mom is dead, Nami's mom is dead, Choppers adoptive father is dead, Robins entire former island are dead, Frankys mentor is dead, Brooks entire crew, including Brook himself! are dead. Kyros wife and Rebeccas mom, is dead.

And these are not deaths just briefly mentioned, we spend time with these characters, through flashbacks yes, but we saw them and heard them speak, and they died.

Their death usually goes to explain our current characters motivation, emotion and situation.. but they are still characters we watched die.

So yeah, you can have a lot of dead people and have it matter.
Heck, any-one watch Games of thrones? .. that's even more than Naruto a thing that tries to conveys war and people die, but it's a good series, in the context of that show it makes sense. So well..

I guess what I am trying to say... I don't get how you can measure the quality of a show or story by the number of deaths. That.. doesn't make any sense to me.
You can have a lot of deaths, or none at all, and still have an strong emotional story, it really depends on what kind of story it is, and how it is told, isn't it?

Why do people constantly bash Naruto so much? He just pointed out one aspect that Naruto could be considered to be greater than One Piece and yet the fan boys in the section take it like a personal insult. Relax guys, it's just a manga and even though they are awesome, real life is way more important than Naruto or One Piece and I love both these shows almost equally.

As for the people saying that Kishimoto can't come up with his own ideas, it is true that he was influenced by HxH and was a used as a template. However, I am sure that Togashi and Kishimoto both knew and it was not like he took his ideas without consent. I follow both these shows and they are vastly different but haters will just look at two instances( Kurapika vs Sasuke and the hunter exams vs chunnin exams) and proclaim that the mangas are identical which is false.

Naruto is better than One Piece in some aspects just like One Piece is better in other aspects and all these are personal opinions. For example, I think HxH is the greatest story and is better than both One Piece and Naruto but I don't care if people disagree. Just enjoy both of these amazing mangakas for what they bring.

Undermining deaths? the whole death factor in One Piece is undermined. No one even dies in One Piece so why do you have a problem with dead characters coming back in Naruto?
If the value of deaths are destroyed due to reanimation then shouldn't the value people nearly dying in One Piece be ineffective as well? By your logic.

Stop attacking Naruto for it's problems when you have One Piece has problems too.
The whole death factor in OP is undermined? LOL How? My problem is that the OP had to bring in Naruto into the discussion because it brings narutards like you, ekichi onizuka (brain-dead) and vasu. It's like he purposely did it, wouldn't you agree that none of these bashing's wouldn't have occurred if he didn't bring Naruto into this thread? He could of easily re-thought his title and remove the Naruto comparisons in his OP.

No one dies in OP? WB and Ace died and their deaths progressed the plot. If they haven't had died, Luffy wouldn't of had gained the character development and WB's death was to open a new era or pirates. Either way, both of their deaths brought progression. Let's look at naruto; the only deaths that brought progression/development for Naruto was primarily Jiraya. There were deaths that didn't even bring any progression to Naruto's development or the plot in general. You have to understand the Pell was healed soon after the blast, similar to how Garaa was revived/saved. Even then, Pell isn't a major character that has much significance to the plot in general. I am aware OP has it's problems but they don't hinder the plot that much as Naruto's problems does.

I just can't see how people can still read Naruto every week and actually enjoy it and discuss it when its seems like the Kishi doesn't care about his manga anymore

I don`t even see why people bother making theories anymore as well. Even though those theories that people make are better than what actually happen in the manga since they`re logical. Like the amazing theories with Tobi`s identity. xD

I know that the chapters dipped in quality in the last year but I feel that the story has picked up and there is still excitement that emits from the manga; Guy was so awesome in the last few chapters. Also, if you are having trouble being excited, try watching the anime and even though there are fillers going on right now, the anime is awesome. In my case, I feel that One Piece has gotten a little boring after the time skip but I still read the manga and sometimes it is not captivating IMO. So I watch the anime version as well and Dressrosa looks fantastic animated and it helps to potray what I read in a more exciting manner. Another tip is to read a bunch of chapters which can help the story flow more and gives the bigger picture.

Lol I hear no one theories come through in Naruto.....people usually say the reveals are built up to be special and then they flop hard when revealed

Although I like OP fights I really watch it for the story not the fights and the same with Naruto. I sdon't think the story of Naruto can be repaired and I think its being patched over with some action to redeem a story that story that fell from grace. When I say I don't no how people can take Naruto serious anymore I'm talking strictly about the story itself.

Now I don't take Naruto seriously as a story anymore I watch it strictly for action and fights now:p Also OP I am more than caught up so I don't think I have to back track

To the op, sorry fprgot to reply to your "it makes no sense for just awekaned haki to save him" similar txt.
Well u do know spur of the moment things can b very amplified coz why the heck wld the haki aweken if it cldnt save him, if his will to live in that moment wld have been that great then yah an invisible shield haki pisitioned btwn him and the bomb as it explodes(just for clarification bomb here is the outward moving energy released from the physical bomb), he wld b shielded from the shock and heat but wld b violently pushed away by the surge of energy released.(its just a for fun theory so just roll with it)

A guy a several post before kinda brought out one interesting note, all most each and every one strawhat has lost someone in their lives and those pple's deaths are so relavent to that charecter and they actually push the charecter furthe, while his death might have been for plot's purposes Dr Hiluluk's death was quite touching for me and while it hit heavey to chopper dr still died for his own belifies retarted as they may seem he died his own charecter and not so evident its for chopper just as Ace's death is not just to push Luffy it has its own pull and pushing our prontagonist is a happy by product of it.
In all earnesty OPis built upon one heck of a death, Roger's death is like one piece on its own, and its huge that even if u dont kill anyone else it suffices. One piece's plot is so vast that for one person to die and make a dent in iy they jave to b really standout Granny Nyon(old hag on Hancok island) said it entering that war luffy was like an ant braving agnaist a storm, the death of a microscopic ant like pell wld not have helped anyone, it wld have just added to the number who died on panel, but letting Pell survive and setting up a Reverie Oda cld b cooking something for the guy and the more pple nitpick over him surving the more anxious i get to see him, its like bellamy Im happy now he survived in Jaya coz that wld have been waste of a good charecter now that I look at it(wld it have been cool if his only purpose was to insult and slap luffy then luffy later slaps him, its better now he survived and there is even now talk of him joining the crew or becominh an ally.

I'm a chick, but thanks.
Should.. probably change my profil picture, it's my friend who is cosplaying Zoro on the pick, I am the one cosplaying Usopp in the background X)
I just thought it was such a great picture of us playing out the characters... any-ways.

Yeah, that is a funny thing to note, the entirety of One Piece is indeed centred around the death of one single character.
We only got to meet him ever in small shadow clips, the most we ever got to see him in the anime was in the Filler episode that was almost a teaser to "Strong world." depicting the Goldens Lions story. And yet every-thing is about Rogers Legacy.
People talk about him all the time, searches for the things he left behind, we meet people affected of his life and his legacy, you can tell that Roger changed the world, and by leaving a legacy like that.. he is still changing the world.

That is sure how you have a dead character matter without having to bring him back to life... and I wouldn't put it past One Piece for some-one to suddenly have a fruit that bring back ghosts or what-ever.. that's kind of One Piece, you can do what-ever the heck you want with the devil fruits, you can make them do any-thing
The only really restricting thing about the devil fruits are that you can only use each power ones, and as a fanfic writer, having written some one piece, I gotta say that's tough coming up with new powers at this point.
Though hm.. if Thriller Bark is any indication of this mangas view of things, it is a; actually bringing dead people back is a no no in this univers.
HogBack and Moria tried, but all they ended with were poor imitations of the dead, they were unable to bring any souls back from the grave, therefore they had to steal still living peoples souls (shadows.) to even make it work... Didn't.. Technically, didn't they create new life there so.. All the Zombies died.
Dude! Zombie Lola, Namis good buddie, is dead! Dead, dead and never coming back, dead! Yeah, sure, her soul is still alive and given back to the rightful owner, but her memories, specific personality and dreams are all gone. She's dead!
How many poor innocent marines do you guys think died doing Enies Lobby when the Buster Call were performered and no-body was allowed out, they just destroyed all of Enies Lobby.. those marines died! ... poor unfortunate sods..

And yeah, I really do think Hiluluk are one of the greatest deaths in the entire manga.
Which really goes to show you can get emotionally attached, even though he is merely a flashback character, exsisting only to give Chopper motivation and depth.
Hiluluk still was a character, he had his own rich character and depth, dream, motivation, view on the world, back-story, the lot. he was a fully fleshed character whom died.. dawww.

Another topic.. I am so confused what this thread is even about now.
It's just like.. all the Naruto fans yells. "You One Piece fans are stupid, and but hurt when we disagree with you." and the One Piece fans yells back. "You Naruto fans are stupid, and but hurt when we disagree with you!"

And that is.. all the arguments present. And erh.. erhm.. this.. this is the One Piece Section of a Naruto forum.. shouldn't.. shouldn't we be supporting both mangas.

"You are just angry that One Piece isn't as popular."

What.. that's kinder garden banter, also pretty silly, yeah Naruto is more popular... In the western world! Go to Japan, in Japan One Piece is the one single biggest thing in Manga and Anime right now, while Naruto and Bleach are just minor side-notes in comparison, it's not going any-where any-time soon... But what does it even matter, both manga and Animes are popular enough, they have been popular to each go on for over a decade

Trying to dismiss influence of either is pretty pointless around now.
They have both been around for a long time, they have both left a big influence at this point, a really big influence in each their way. You cannot go to a con any-where, without having just some-one cosplay Naruto and some-one Cosplay One Piece, it is that influential..
One Piece is not for every-one, I totally get that! The manga is a weird acid trip, and there is NO WAY I can explain the ungoings of the plot to strangers without them looking at me like I have gone insane.

So yeah.. I get that. I personally enjoy it, but I absolutely see why it's not all people whom would.

And this discussion.. feels pointless to me, especially when people are just spitting out kinder garden insults at each other instead of discussing the content of the mangas.

I agree, it would have been cool to see more people die.
But overall Oda is the better writer.
Kishi has to kill people off to keep the story interesting, Oda doesn't.
Look at the majority of the war arc, it was pretty boring, and hardly any characters died. Odas arcs are always interesting regardless of deaths.
