Of all the changes we have seen occur during this war, one thing is for sure, Kishi has kept character personalities extremely consistent.

Have you ever opened a user submitted prediction, read a line of a particular character and exclaimed, "They'd never say that!"? If you have, you'd realize that the reason you believe that character would never say that is because Kishi has done such a good job of establishing that character's personality.

Now there is also room for personality changes, but when they occur, Kishi gives good reasons for them. We've seen Sasuke undergo multiple changes, most notably in the war, but hasn't Kishi established that Sasuke is consistently fickle anyway? By that I mean Sasuke is established as being moldable, a blank canvas as Itachi puts it. So it is well within Sasuke's character to be inconsistent or fickle right?

Bottom line I'm getting at is no matter how many changes we see go down in this manga in regard to power scaling, plot driven upgrades and the like, we can always count on the fact that Kishi will never change one of his character's personalities without good reason.

I commend Kishi, and all manga writers honestly, because establishing the mindsets and character personalities of dozens of characters while always keeping them consistent is no small task. Much respect.

Yeah, no one can take that away from Kishi. Another good example is Minato: Minato has always been humble and take all the responsibility for himself, not letting his emotions influence his decisions. In the case of Minato and Obito, Minato learns that Obito was the masked man from years ago. Now, I wanted Minato to rage out and attack Obito for all the wrong he's caused his family and the world in a blind fury. Instead, Kishi keeps Minato in character and he proceeds to blame himself and think that it is all due to his failures.

Ironically me and another member just mentioned this last night but I completely agree. It's extremely impressive that Kishi and other mangakas to keep characters in their personality the way they do.

Yep, happens all the time to me when I read predictions
That's actually the inspiration of this thread, I read a guy's prediction and disagreed with what he had a character state. I realized at that point that the reason I disagreed with him is because Kishi did a good job of establishing that person's character in my mind.

A great example, and I agree. Glad to see others were thinking about this :).

I wouldn't really say hashirama even had a personality back then tbh
Exactly, Hashirama and even Tobirama never really had established character personalities. So yes, Hashi's first impression seemed very out of left field, but you were basing it on a very limited amount of screen time. Not only that, but when he was originally summoned, it was under more dire circumstances. He was forced to fight an ally while when he was revived the second time, he was surrounded by allies and was not being forced to fight.

@Hipster, post the panels of the change you were talking about regarding Minato or be more specific?

I think overconfidence if Madara's forte, wouldn't you agree? -_-

If you're talking about him abandoning the Ninja Tools that is.
Cool a thread that is about kishi, and isnt the usual bash kishi thread, and brings up a very valid point.

Cool a person who can think rationaly, and really view things as they are.(many many people thought madara just casually tossing the tools were out of character....when in fact it was just in character.)

Great thread. I wish kishi had expanded more on these side characters, but he does keep them mostly consistant.
(there are some times where a character isnt quite right for a panel or 2. But he does a great great job with that)

He could improve on the Quantity of characters he develops, and improve on execution of many aspects of his plot. But as far as keeping characters consistant, he is excellent.

It annoys me when people make threads bashing kishi himself. It takes great talent to make a manga as popular and good as naruto is/was(depending on your viewpoint).

You may question his judgement. But when you just say he sucks, and is a horrible writer.....(even though he can write something much more popular and better than you)

Anyways sorry for my ranting. Great job and anaylsis.

Thanks, I try to make a positive thread every once in a while :). I agree with you that he could develop characters better. He seems to forget about characters sometimes or puts them at the back of his mind, but the only times that will happen is when he's focusing on the main plot and needs to get certain story elements taken care of. Even so, he has shown quite a lot of character diversity in the war, where many more characters got screen-time than the average fan perhaps expected. Either way, yes I agree that he has done an overall great job.

Totally agreed. Also, I greatly appreciate that when characters have a deeper impact on the plot, their personality also becomes deep.

The problem I see with this is that there are characters that appear in places where they are not even called. For instance, Ten Ten, Lee, Gai and the tools.

I can't really say what would happen with them.
