OP is a Japanese manga set in Japan right? so why does Brook have a sword whose blade is styled after the wu dang style sword a Chinese blade rather than a typical Japanese blade(and I don't necessarily mean a katana as there are more blades than that from Japan.

Brook's Soul King:

Notice how these all have a straight or curved back while Brook's Soul King has two flat edges and a triangle point.

Now before some history or google enthusiast comes and tries to flex brain muscle I know Japan modeled early swords after the Chinese style but it wasn't long before they discovered tempering the steel and bowing the back to increase slashing capabilities, thus abandoning the Chinese method of sword craft and creating a unique style all their own.

I was just wondering if their was any rhyme or reason to this or if it was simply a style choice or an oversight? Unless Oda has said in an interview it was for style I'm inclined to believe it was an oversight unless Brook is really a Chinese skeleton.

Thanks for reading.

Anime dude..... Anime. u_u
so...Oversight.

Maybe because China is cooler than Japan.
Blasphemer. They may be "cooler"(Subjective) but they got wrecked in both Sino-Japanese wars, so I'll take Japan over China anyday in a real fight.

There called Jians and there awesome. All most as cool as the Katana.
I know what they're called but I find it hard to believe he'd have a sword from a time period so long ago.

Well maybe he just didn't give a damn and gave him a sword which he didn't know damn about >_>
So oversight in your opinion also.

thanks for taking the time peoples.

Maybe it was due to his creation and they wanted the blade to be that shape so that he could store it in a cane...

Don't really watch OP and I'm not arguing that it's odd but still, probably just to make his character have some class.

I could see that since he is the "gentleman skeleton"

on a side note do they think that rhymes? It's like Dora the Explorer which would work if you were a Kennedy, "Oy, Im gonna go watch Dor-ah the explor-ah"

Well Kizaru means yellow monkey and real life daimyo, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was nicknamed Kozaru "little Monkey" so that is Japanese but Kizaru's real name, Borsalino does sound Italian and he looks as if he was drawn to look Italian as well.

Does it bother you that its a Chinese sword?
My aren't we presumptuous today. Did I use any profane or hostile wording to give you the impression I was angry about this or do you just assume anyone who questions something is bothered by it.

Kid:"why's the sky blue"
Hypemaster:"does it bother you the sky is blue?"
Kid:"No, I'm curious and asking questions is how people learn"

But if you really wanna know, I was watching Brook try and get his shadow back from the zombie and the zombie is using a typical Japanese styled sword which made me notice Brook's which made me think about Chinese swords.

Nor was I, it was just a simple question and that last statement was the only answer I needed to hear.

rikerslade is correct; One Piece has its own unique setting, which should be rather apparent.

Examples of geographical/cultural variety:

Water 7 seems to be based off of Venice, as it is water-logged and has canals that people travel on.
Wano Country seems to be based off feudal Japan, given its "closed-door policy" and samurai inhabitants.
Dressrosa is based off Spain, evidenced by the architecture, clothes, flamenco dancers, typical cuisine, and Spanish terms.

The Admirals; their appearances are based off of Japanese actors and their aliases are taken from the Momotaro Legends.

Simply put, Oda likes to reference a plethora of different things. A Chinese sword could be found anywhere in OP.
