Ironically, it was because of her dependency on Naruto that she was able to develop this much in the first place.

She's very similar in development to Sakura. In the same way that Hinata watches Naruto's back and wants to catch up, Sakura watched Naruto and Sasuke's backs as an encouragement to catch up.

Dude, Kishimoto doesn't only sell manga for Japan. He knows Naruto's objective public is worldwide and he is no dumb, he has culture, he knows that taking hands is not only a sign of love but a sign of profound friendship too. I would give you the reason if you said Hinata loves Naruto. But that's not a pattern of the personality of Naruto, you're giving me a difuse fact that only can prove something for a pretty introvertive personality, not for an extrovertive character as Naruto. So that "holding hands" is nowhere near a valid argument.
