For the last few years, and up to a week ago, I had pretty bad acne. It looked about like this, if not slightly better:

I was self conscious about it, and it took an emotional toll on me. As a result of this, I would always run my hands over my face, searching for new pimples. Also (as disgusting as it sounds), I would pick at and pop them, under the delusion that I was somehow helping. However, for some reason I decided to completely stop touching my face about a week ago. Along with that, I made sure to take a daily shower and run a warm washcloth over my face in the morning and at night. I also stopped using soap and acne medication on my face.

Today, a week since I started doing this, it is not an exaggeration to say my acne is 90% gone. It's incredible how fast it improved. I'm telling you all this in case there's someone else with acne who touches their face and picks at it. For some reason, when people would tell me not to do this, I would pass it off as something that people like to say but doesn't really matter. I couldn't have been more wrong.

If you had acne that is now gone, or have acne that's gotten significantly better, what methods did you use to improve it?

Just having proper hygiene helps.

And things like pro active or a generic brand version can help too.

What is this? An informercial?

No offense, but you make it sound like you weren't taking daily showers prior. If you have trouble such as acne, hygiene should be a priority.

dont use acne medication everyday use it about one or twice a week because its basically pulling all the oil inside your skin out henceforth the pimples or blackheads come out. popping them only leaves burns or blemishes whatever you wanna call them.

What is your problem? Obviously you've never had bad acne, because you underestimate the toll it can take on a person. That was clear when you said "What is this? An infomercial?" If you have a problem with me honestly trying to help people, then I have a problem with you.

And about the shower thing, for the most part I would always take one daily. But can you honestly say you never skip a shower? On top of that, I have gotten daily chronic migraines since second grade when I had meningitis. I haven't been able to go to school since 7th grade. So no, I'm not ashamed to admit that sometimes I'm in too much pain to care about taking a shower.

its your hormones, its not your fault, washing your face over and over again will make your face dry, losing your natural oil, cause more problems.

i never had a bad break out before, maybe 2 big ones at same time, that i thought were big, but people said otherwise, stress can make you breakout as well, if your a teenager it is a common thing

You just told me too much unnecessary information about yourself. Doesn't change my opinion.

Edit: oh, and I know a lot more about acne than you ;) just saying.

Yeah, I'm 16. Also, I only wash my face twice a day, and lightly. So I don't really think I'm doing too much.

Unnecessary information? What exactly would that be?

I've never had bad acne problems. The worst it ever got was in the 7th grade; even then it wasn't that bad. Perhaps its different from person to person.

If your body is prone to acne, you can't change that. There is literally NOTHING that can be done to prevent acne once the oil and dirt has built up. All those expensive creams? All they really do is speed up the removal of dead skin cells. It doesn't actually remedy your acne. There's a chance it may not even be acne. Have you ever been to a dermatologist?

It's rather unfortunate you have meningitis. Since you're alive, I'll assume it isn't the fatal kind.

I'm not questioning that. I explained my health problems because I believe that is a more than suitable reason for why I can't always take a daily shower. And yes, I have been to a dermatologist. He prescribed an antibiotic called Minocycline and a cream to go with it.

No, my meningitis wasn't bacterial. It was viral. But the infection spread to my brain and damaged it to the point where I have gotten chronic migraines since then. I have gotten multiple kidney stones, and with one my kidney went septic and nearly killed me. But still, that pain paled in comparison to what I had to go through when I was 8. And even the meningitis pales in comparison to its long term effects. Imagine having a bad headache that never goes away. Imagine being up for two or three days without sleeping because the pain is just too intense, and the breaks between throwing up are too short to consider laying down.

I only get pimples when I eat certain things.
I can't eat peanutbutter, chocolate, milk, mayonaise and some other things or else I'll get pimples xD
Luckily, I'm clean as I've been eating healthy for the past 5 years. Idk about hygiene. I shower everyday and take care if my face as I have my mom's genetic issues when it comes to my face. She grew up on a carribean island and has white skin, so the sun would be devastating to her face.
