I dont think so personally. Tsukuyomi as well as amaterasu all in that confined space.. I just dont see how Jiraiya manages to survive that. If he was starting out in sage mode then it is more than a possibility but base mode Jiraiya had nothing on Itachi, especially in the circumstances given.

The thoughts are the same in all translations. Itachi said both he and Jiraiya would die. You think he was lying?
Kisame - You could somehow win, but I couldn't stand up to such an opponent for more than a couple of minutes... It's on a completely different level.
Itachi - Ah... Either (we) both (he says both/two, meaning him and Kisame) would die, or it would be a draw... The result wouldn't change even if we increased our numbers.
Kisame - It was good that we found him at the ramen shop... And he has one of the Legendary Sannin as a lucky charm. That guy (Jiraiya) might be a fair match for the strongest Uchiha from Konoha and the Mist's strongest swordsman.
Itachi - Hmm, even so... It's said that every strong man has a weakness...

Kisame and Itachi were talking about the Kyuubi, not Jiraiya. Kisame brings the topic of Jiraiya up later on in the conversation and Itachi acknowledges that he's strong, but he says that he has a weakness.

It seems as if Kisame was babbling on about taking the Kyuubi on, that he couldn't do it more than a couple of minutes but Itachi would have a chance. Itachi states that they both wouldn't stand a chance of winning, even if they increased their numbers.

If Jiraiya started out in SageMode, he would Win/Tie. If not, he would Tie/Lose. That Sound genjutsu the frogs have is ridiculous. Un-Counterable. Then, swamp of the underworld wrecks Itachi's Susano'o. Jiraiya may be able to counter Amaterasu, it is debateable I hear. Itachi's visual genjutsu is Jiraiya's biggest weakness here.

I would say tie.

I always said "Feats speak for themselves" and feats tell me Itachi's low stamina would be a problem for him and probably is why Itachi would Lose not tie. The statement they made was obviously plot by Kishi so Naruto isn't captured. Itachi said "more backup wouldn't change the out come".....BS Jiraiya lost to pain so that tells you the statement is false or plot and Kisame's feats say he could beat Jiraiya.

Thre is another translation that shows Kisame and Itachi was talking about Kyuubi. Which I'm thinking is true because no way Jiraiya>Kisame+Itachi or Jiraiya > Itachi+Kisame+Pain+ect

Jiraya was a legend with a hands full of some extremly deadly techniques,If Itachi would have equaled him then it would be due toTsukuyomi or
amaterasu. It would'nt be difficult for Jiraya to dodge Amaterasu but I am not particular about Tsukuyomi but due to his experience and high tactical knowledge I think he would figure out some some way to atleast get prevented in getting caught in it.In sage mode He can surpass Itachi. The Genjutsu of the two toads is as deadly as Tsukuyomi.
Jiraya is one of the handful shinobi's which can equal or even defeat Itachi...

This is ridiculous. At scenario they met, one amaterasu or tsukuyomi would suffice.
If some how SM Jman would jump on itachi, he still got nothing on susanoo. Not to mention Jiraya still lacks speed to counter amaterasu and tsukuyomi. SM changes nothing if itachi will go full on him.

Itachi would've got owned by Frog Fu. Either that, or Jiraiya would've sank Itachi into a gigantic puddle of mud. Jiraiya took down most of Oro's snake when he was drugged, so I don't see why he can't take down Itachi and Kisame...

Jiraya would have never achieved a stalemate against those two at the same time... unless he summoned the toad family o.o
SM Jiraya is stronger than either one of them individually but together they would have defeated him.

Itachi said to Kisame that if he fought Jiraiya both of them would stalemate and die, do you think Itachi was telling the truth back then or was Itachi simply lying?

itachi said they would would tie, and itachi didnt even know about jiraiyas sage mode, so jiraiya would have won if they did fight back then

One eye contact with Itachi can kill you, one glance of him can, too. He's the best at Genjutsu and even possesses Shisuis eye, calling it a part of his power, while Jiraiya however is weak at Genjutsu and gives Naruto the advice to run away if he's about to face a Genjutsu user in a 1on1. He's much faster than Jiraiya in both speed and handseals, so fast that not even the Sharingan can keep up with him properly. He is also much more intelligent, according to Kabuto able to read his opponents like an open book.

Kabuto needed to close his eyes, in order not to fall for any of the Uchihas Genjutsu, above, the Uchiha mustn't kill him. So what makes Jiraiya better than Itachi, if he's slower, less intelligent and can be one shotted with one eye contact and glance of Itachi? I dunno.
