After looking at the different characters - since I got bored of studying - I realised something important. Out of all the people in Konoha 11, the one with the most potential is Lee.

I'm not's saying this without thinking, it's obvious that Sasuke and Naruto are by far the strongest, but technically, Lee should have been the strongest so far, here's why:

  • One of the main thematic elements of Naruto is not to give up. Keeping this in mind, out of all the characters shown in the manga, by far, Lee possesses this quality the most. Even Naruto doesn't have as much perseverance as Lee. Granted, Naruto was alone, but I actually think, that in the same way, Lee was also alone, he never had much support and we never got to see a parental role around to support him. Naruto had minor chakra issues, whereas, Lee lacked entirely. Lee was also bullied like the other kids in his class. And even though the village didn't hate lee, to be honest, it was much more difficult for Lee to keep working hard from where he was and not to give up than Naruto. So according to the relation with the theme, Lee has more potential.
  • His power is just amazing... There are three main types of power: Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, and Taijutsu. Lee alone does so well with Taijutsu and is said to excel in it. There are so many elements of japanese and chinese history that could have been incorporated - after all there is a lot of martial art and that is Taijutsu. I know there's the 8 gates, but Kishi, as I mentioned earlier, could have made it much more, Taijutsu in itself is a branch of power and it should be focused on a lot. I know that Kishi added the Drunken Fist - which is awesome, but there was so much more he could have added. I know there are the seven gods of the drunken fist in the historical background of the move - why not develop that for Lee to use, just like the 8 gates, the 7 gods would have been an entirely new range of unique power for him to develop and use.
I've been wondering why, for a long time, Lee was treated so badly by the mangaka.. even though he's a character... to trash the guy's spirit like that... It's really sad to do such a thing, and of all the things that have happened in Naruto, this has bothered me the most, but now it makes sense.

The guy had so much potential, and Kishi had to destroy it by putting him against Gaara when he was not ready to fight him and make him have a life-long injury to keep him from expanding on his potential, and spiking Naruto's drink with power making him high on the Kyuubi. But, by doing that, he ensured that Lee wouldn't be able to expand on his potential as much as Naruto and Sasuke, so he would not interfere with the plot.

Overall... I guess learning this has just made me lose respect for Kishimoto, why make a character so filled with so much potential and then waste it? :dunno:

Naruto has a bijuu, so he had the most potential of all of K11, and he achieved it.

id say youre right.
lee is probably one of my favorite characters.
id say shikamaru, neji and lee have the most potential out of k11, besides naruto and sasuke.

i guess now that neji is dead it doesnt matter.

good thread, and I agree really Lee could've beat Gaara and most likely won the chuunin exams but that would totally change the plot. He hasn't had much screen time in part 2 either and it's probably because of the plot but you can still see his growth and seem to be able to handle 5th gate with no damge to himself and probably can unlock 6. Look what he did to Madara.....something Naruto couldn't do.

Excluding Naruto and Sasuke, Lee and Neji have the most potential. They were just too underdeveloped, if Kishimoto spent more time on them, they'd turn out to be amazing, powerful characters.

Lee has the will and determination to never give up, and let's face it, he can throw a punch
Neji has amazing prodigal skills.

These two are like Naruto and Sasuke imo, without the dramatic history and the OPness. I'd love to see Lee really deal some damage, imo he can even surpass Gai.

Kishi just doesn't like lee, he uses him as comedic relief and uses gai sensei when he wants to have a taijutsu fight.

Finally someone thinks the same way...
Kishi should make him actually defeat a powerful genius; he was taking down Sasuke; but Gai stopped the fight. I think he is one of the most unique characters, he certainly deserves screentime; his fighting style is one of the bests. He fought toe to toe with Gaara; someone who became a kage after 2 years of their fight; this is not a small feat, he also fought with Kimimaro; a candidate for being Orochimaru's vessel. Him and Neji had the biggest potentials excluding from main characters; but Kishi choose to kill Neji for a pairing...
He should have treated better; he might be fictioanal but what he represents is real.

Byakugan has potential, and that'd mean Hinata has potential.....

Do not bring Hinata to everything... Hinata is someone who is still weak despite being from a fancy clan; she got defeated to her 6 year old sibling at the age of 11; she had opportinuty to be a one of good taijutsu users; but among close range combatants she is one of the weakests by far, she is inferior to Neji, Lee an Chouji; the taijutsu users from her generation; she is not even close to them all of those three would wreck her to a pulp, being weaker is not a thing; being weak despite the fact that having feats from birth; that's the problem.

The only rookies that have potential if Kishi uses them more are:

1.Lee

2.Shikamru

3.Hinata
