He didn't do anything wrong when he was talking with Hashirama, he pointed out facts, and the fact was that Hashirama should have let the village vote on the first hokage, he did make some mistakes as the second hokage but still. He was a good one nonethless specially sacrificing himself to save Hiruzen and Danzo plus rest of his squad.

And how is it his fault, when it's outright stated that the reason why Madara would not have been made Hokage is because everyone including the Uchiha acknowledged Hashirama as the true founder of Konohagakure?
