My little brother just turned 13 years old, and he wants to start working out. I want to know is it safe for him to hit the weights? I was thinking about putting him on a strictly Body-Weight exercise only routine until he gained a few more pounds, and some muscle (he's currently like 98lbs, lol anorexic ass) then after he gained some I'd put him on a lifting weights routine.

Is it safe to give him supplements? (most likely won't do that, just making sure it's okay) he's trying to get bigger for football next year (he'll be in 8th grade).

You probably shouldn't give him supplements, as it isn't that serious if he's only in the 8th grade lol.

not safe. Can alter his growth and such. Just have him go join a sports team or something. It's ok to lift weights at the age of 15

I'd say 13 is a little early. Lifting too much could mess up his growth plates. But, it's up to you and your parents, I guess.

He's serious about football man. Our whole family is really. Anyhow, I suppose you're right, even though the supplements aren't bad (whey protein, cell tech, creatine etc.)

I don't believe this to be true, and in most cases it's been said to be false. I started working out when I was 13, and I've grown since, and still am growing.

I really just believe it's the way your technique is.

Be very careful with training. It could block his growth. Intense training should be done under supervision of a professional trainer, knowing the dangers of overdoing it.

Muscles could block his growth, as well as energy not given to cells in order to grow.

13 is really young. Best let his body grow the way his blueprint intends it for now. No supplements.

Well, yeah.
Football players lift weights, right? Useless question was useless and not enough Itachi.

Well, you never know how it may affect his growth, you know? I'd definitely say no to supplements. Kid just hit puberty, so it might have negative affects on his development. If he does wanna lift weights, I'd suggest letting him curl like 15-20 pounds and letting him do some cardio, like treadmill or laps.

Some push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups and squats without weights never hurt anyone either.

Hope this helps.

Alright, thanks everyone. I'll just set him up on Body Weight exercises, and sports. Along with just eating.

It depends if you were doing it in moderation or not. If a 13 year old kid is lifting 2-3 hours a day, it would make sense for his body to be jacked up. But, if in moderation, lifting can be fine. That's how I see it, and that's what I've been told by my dad, who is a pretty muscular guy and would know such things. So...

Lay off excessive weight. Try to keep him in the body weight area(push ups, pull ups, etc.) Supplement consumption too young are very damaging, so go with natural proteins like tuna, soy and beans. You won't get bigger without heavy lifts, but you can't rush development. Tell him to research on google, any training requires more preparation than actual exercise. Good luck!

Well I would say you should go for it and let him. I don't see much that can affect him ^^

If he's serious about 8th grade football, wait until he gets to High School.. I only played pickup games after school with some players of the football team.

They f*cked me up out there.

Start having him do push up, and sit ups first. But also daily jogs would be helpful too.
