I just don't see him beating the likes of Sanji or Zoro, much less Luffy, and I think Coby would make a better Marine rival for Luffy.

Lol at featless character who hasn't done anything but be one shotted would make a better marine rival for Luffy? Smoker who has been portrayed as at least near Luffy's level is far more suited and how can you not see him beating Sanji when he put up a far better fight against Vergo.

Quick reminder Vergo's Haki was strong enough to block a sword that is used by haki user and smoker was able to damage him with just just fist and elbow...just throwing it out there, if anything you've proven how underestimated Smoker is if you think Sanji and Zoro are ahead of him especially when Smoker is going to continue chasing Luffy and it wouldn't make any sense for Oda to do this unless Smoker was a similar level to Luffy it's common sense 101.

I agree that Luffy can beat Smoker at the moment. I think he is fit to be his rival, far more than Coby.

I mean look at the ranks. At Luffys stage, he can't be having a Captain for a rival... he needs a Vice Admiral, and Smoker is like the spitting image of what Garp wanted Luffy to be.
