You know the drill by now. Start by telling me everything relevant you know about Yin Release, and Yin as a philosophical concept. The latter isn't as important as the former, but both are equally relevant because there are aspects we're going to touch upon in the techniques to come that will require a fundamental understanding of Yin and Yang.

So Yin Release is a pretty expansive field, encompassing things from the actual manipulation of "Yin" in a subcategory of Yin-Yang techniques - usually dealing with Sage level techniques - to things like Genjutsu and Shadow Manipulation, which are all noted to be "Yin Release" techniques. By and large, it encompasses things that are "spiritual", "incorporeal", or "metaphysical". In the roleplay, its infamous due to what it allows Genjutsu to do, as well as having a few powerful techniques such as: Yin Dragons and the Get-People-Custom-banned technique.

Philosophically, Yin is: cold, feminine, and deals with the concepts of death, spirituality, and the like. As mentioned earlier, Yin is more about metaphysical or spiritual concepts than Yang, which typically embodies things like growth, warmth, etc.

So everything you said there is pretty much spot on. There is one point I'd like to make though, and it's very cool that it works like this and how it lines up with the philosophical side of things. So when you look at the Yin Yang symbol, there's a spot of Yang in the Yin and vice versa, and the same is true on site. It's harder in some techniques, but when you think about them in terms of what each field can do, you'll start to see that there are Yin techniques that have a touch of Yang in them. Lets just jump straight into a practical example. Where in this technique, if any, is there an effect or effects that would normally be governed by Yang?

(Inton: Ten ni Henkō) – Yin Release: Change into Heaven
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra: N/A (+50 chakra cost to applied technique)
Description: The user manipulates a technique of the basic 5 elements with Yin natured energy, allowing the user to change its physical properties. Fire can become solid, lightning can become tangible, water can become invisible. Possibilities are limited to changes in physical properties; more specifically, this means that one cannot transform a flame into a spiritual flame, or make a rock intangible. The user must be able to clearly define what the new technique is within realistic limitations. If, for example, the user makes Swamp of the Underworld into something solid then it might neutralize the entire point of the technique. The resulting technique must be described logically; if this condition is not met then the technique might outright fail. The end result is a technique neutral to all basic elemental natures. This technique is applied within the same timeframe as the technique it is applied to. The infused chakra increases the technique by an additional ten, but costs fifty in total.

Note: Yin Release Specialists and Yin-Yang users can apply this technique to advanced fields, CE, and advanced elements.
Note: Using Change into Heaven to transform the inherent nature of an element does not modify its base speed.
Note: Usable 3 times per battle and 6 times per arc.

So looking at this technique, if there's an aspect of it I would say is generally under the umbrella of things that Yang governs, I would say is that this results in a physical change to the technique in question. Fire and Lightning from plasma's to solids/something more tangible, water's visibility being changed, etc. I wouldn't call these "spiritual" phenomena like I would assume would fall in Yin.

Yeah, despite being an inherently spiritual field, Yin does allow the user to interact with and alter physical properties. Don't forget that one of Yin's most common properties in the roleplay is to give a solid form to one's imagination. Ironic that the spiritual field creates the tangible form, while the physical field grants the immaterial spark of life.

Moving on we have probably the best canon Genjutsu assist technique in the RP. Just analyze the technique this time, add any notes you think may be relevant. This one's probably one of the least complicated Yin Release technique, as all it's doing is boosting a different technique and giving it the relevant qualities.

(Inton: Gogyou Gen) – Yin Release: Five Elements Illusion
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra: N/A (+50 chakra cost to applied technique)
Description: This technique allows the user to combine their elemental chakra with Yin Release in order to create stronger, more potent Genjutsu. When the user casts a Genjutsu, rather than using their raw chakra they will use one of the basic elemental natures, thus increasing the potency of the jutsu. This technique increases the technique it is applied to by one rank in strength; due to the massive infusion of chakra a Genjutsu empowered by the Five Elements Illusion can penetrate through any passive defense or subversive method against Genjutsu. By using nature chakra rather than raw chakra, the properties of the Genjutsu can change in accordance to that nature and become stronger. For example, using Crushing Snake Constriction with Fire Release chakra would make the snakes appear, feel, and sound as though they were on fire. The user is free to alter the effects of a Genjutsu within reason as long as the primary effects remain the same. Like other Yin-Yang infusions, this technique only increases the chakra within the technique by an additional rank in strength, or 10, whichever is higher.

Note: Can only be used 6 times per battle.
Note: Cannot be used on techniques above S-Rank.
Note: Yin Release Specialists and Yin-Yang users can use advanced elements and CE.

Yeah, even in my limited combat experience since I've returned, I've seen this one quite a bit.

So it adds 50 to the cost of the technique you're augmenting (only 10 of which goes towards effective chakra), and gives us the "elemental genjutsu" moniker. It gives a surprising amount of freedom for what one can alter the occurances of the Genjutsu based on its element, too.

Its restrictions aren't super meaningful, but thankfully its NOT passive.

Correct on all counts. Can't really go into much detail on it, as it's very upfront about what it can do, and there's nothing truly confusing about it, so we'll be moving on to one of the most techniques of all time.

This one's more technical, so go into detail about the pros and cons of it's use.

(Inton: Gaki no Jutsu) - Yin Release: Hungry Ghost Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: N/A (+50)
Damage: N/A
Description: Hungry Ghost is a spiritual parasite created through the user’s Yin Release chakra. When using an elemental jutsu, the user will form the ram hand seal to seal the hungry ghost within their technique. Sealing the hungry ghost inside one’s technique happens within the same timeframe as their elemental technique. When the user’s technique clashes with another technique, the parasitic Yin Chakra will eat away at the chakra within the technique, weakening it by one rank. Once the hungry ghost consumes foreign chakra it is released and immediately attaches itself to the source of the foreign chakra (the opponent). From there, the parasite continues to eat away at the enemy’s chakra every time they use techniques (all techniques reduce in rank and power by 1 degree). Once the Hungry Ghost is released, its tether is immediate and cannot be blocked or circumvented by ordinary means. The effects of Hungry Ghost last for 4 turns.

Note: Can only be used 5 times per battle and cannot be used on the same target more than twice.
Note: Surges or Barriers that utilize Yin, Yang, Yin-Yang or Natural Energy can break or prevent the tethering of the Hungry Ghost.
Note: Yin Release Specialists and Yin-Yang users can use advanced elements and CE.
Note: Hungry Ghost can only be used on S-rank techniques and below.

Alright, so looking at it and going down the line:

  1. Hungry Ghost (HG) is an infusion.
    1. It costs +50 Chakra to cast, but only imparts +10 per the rules.
    2. It can only be used on elemental jutsu
      1. On those Jutsu, it adds an additional handseal (Ram)
        1. Regardless of handseal specs, this should mean that any HG infused technique has a minimum 1 handseal.
    3. The infusion is timeframe passive, but not moveslot passive.
    4. In addition to the +10 chakra it also weakens the opposing technique by 1 rank.
      1. After this clash, it forms a Spiritual Tether to the opponent.
        1. This tether weakens all subsequently cast techniques by 1 rank.
  2. No meaningful (IMO) restrictions.
Its honestly pretty nasty, as if your opponent uses it on a technique to counter one of your own, there's no real way to prevent being tethered.

A few questions:

As far as "prevent" the tethering, its specifically has to be a surge or barrier, right? Like if this was used against Hidden Truths from Dokkodo, the opponent could still tether even though its Natural energy because its not a barrier or surge?

The subsequent surges used to try to break out of this (Yin, Yang, YY, and NE) would all be weakened by 1 rank when tethered by this technique, no? Meaning that it would require a forbidden rank surge? As the "rank and power by 1 degree" decrease should apply to chakra. And on that note, since this technique's chakra value is NA (+50), what value are we contending against for purging the tether? Because if that combos with the +10 chakra fortification rules, this could be quite difficult to break.
