I like to start with the symbolic meaning of Yin-Yang. What do you think you know about it? Daoism is extremely prominent in Naruto, especially toward the end of the story. And its that symbolism that essentially drives us toward Kaguya, who ultimately represented the concept of Wuji (you've seen this term before, think LoK's sage title or Reborn's entire clan concept). What is Wuji? Where does Taiji come from? And why does Yin-Yang rise out from Taiji?

I'll answer all these in greater detail and fill in what you don't know, even if it is all of it.

I'll attempt to answer with the knowledge I have already, rather than use in the moment research. I only have a bare familiarity with the term Wuji, I hardly recall encountering the term 'Taiji'. Wuji is connected with the concept of nothingness, self-erasure and non-existence. It might be guessed then, that Taiji, is the Daoist opposite and is to do with the state of interconnectedness and unity of the whole universe.

Yin-Yang itself is connected to many ideas from what I remember. The Eight Fold Path among other things, but fundamentally I believe it is supposed to represent balance (of energies).

I can't answer where it comes from or how the concept is related to Taiji (if my guess was anywhere near correct).

Wuji is indeed nothingness, and what Hayabusa are based on. If you look up images of Wuji, you usually just see a circle with no distinctive qualities. And that's pretty important. It just means limitless, the infinite, and all encompassing. It is unbroken, and nothing can be differentiated from it. Wuji is that state of the universe before there was anything, and it is from Wuji that we get Taiji - the Supreme Ultimate. If Wuji is nothing, then Taiji is everything. It is the universe before there was any distinction.

It's from Taiji that we gain Yin-Yang. Taiji might be everything, but you still can't differentiate it. To give an easy example, if you had a ball that represented Taiji, then that ball would have no actual distinctive qualities about it. It would just be simply that - a smooth, single color ball. You couldn't tell which end was which. But it's from this that we get Yin-Yang. Yin-Yang forms the basis for the creation of everything. It is actual distinct qualities that give rise to the Creation of All Things - the creation of everything in the universe that is different.

So what is Yin in the RP?

Yin, as an ability in the RP, is an energy that harnesses one's spiritual energy. It is closely aligned with the capacity of imagination, allowing the user to manifest whatever they imagine except living things. Inton can also be harnessed to change the properties of a technique or substance, allowing it to exhibit properties it otherwise never could on its own. As far as its attacking potential is concerned, Yin often inflicts spiritual damage however it is not limited to this, as seen in the example of the Great Phantom Dragons technique. Yin is considered to be the source of fields as Genjutsu and it can both empower said field as well as provide greater resistance to its effects. One thing that is impossible through the use of Yin is healing spiritual damage.

First technique:

(Inton: Ten ni Henkō) – Yin Release: Change into Heaven
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra: N/A (+50 chakra cost to applied technique)
Description: The user manipulates a technique of the basic 5 elements with Yin natured energy, allowing the user to change its physical properties. Fire can become solid, lightning can become tangible, water can become invisible. Possibilities are limited to changes in physical properties; more specifically, this means that one cannot transform a flame into a spiritual flame, or make a rock intangible. The user must be able to clearly define what the new technique is within realistic limitations. If, for example, the user makes Swamp of the Underworld into something solid then it might neutralize the entire point of the technique. The resulting technique must be described logically; if this condition is not met then the technique might outright fail. The end result is a technique neutral to all basic elemental natures. This technique is applied within the same timeframe as the technique it is applied to. The infused chakra increases the technique by an additional ten, but costs fifty in total.
Note: Yin Release Specialists and Yin-Yang users can apply this technique to advanced fields, CE, and advanced elements.
Note: Using Change into Heaven to transform the inherent nature of an element does not modify its base speed.
Note: Usable 3 times per battle and 6 times per arc.

Once upon a time this had no stated limits. But things are a lot different now. Any questions on it? What do you think you'll use it for?

If I use this on a supplementary jutsu with no damage, let's say a B-Rank, to grant it a damaging property (corrosiveness). Will the final technique deal any damage? Will it be considered freeform or will it reflect the rank of the jutsu?

"The end result is a technique neutral to all basic elemental natures. How does this line pertain to advanced natures? Would the end-result still be weak to or strong to AE/CE? Or is it a neutrality to all elements?

I might use it to belie the nature of my techniques (changes in visual properties might be mistaken for a different element, especially one used earlier in the fight). I would use the property of invisibility if I'm aiming for a stealth attack. Might also grant or strip away the property of magnetism from certain solid elements.

It'll still retain that N/A level of damage, so freeform. Though the effects of that corrosiveness are still there and shouldn't be ignored if it does make contact.

Advanced natures would remain the same as they were before it was manipulated by Change into Heaven.

Those are all valid usages.

Remember that changing techniques with Change into Heaven doesn't make the damage they deal spiritual in nature. That is something entirely different.

That makes sense. I've got no further questions.

(Inton: Gogyou Gen) – Yin Release: Five Elements Illusion
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra: N/A (+50 chakra cost to applied technique)
Description: This technique allows the user to combine their elemental chakra with Yin Release in order to create stronger, more potent Genjutsu. When the user casts a Genjutsu, rather than using their raw chakra they will use one of the basic elemental natures, thus increasing the potency of the jutsu. This technique increases the technique it is applied to by one rank in strength; due to the massive infusion of chakra a Genjutsu empowered by the Five Elements Illusion can penetrate through any passive defense or subversive method against Genjutsu. By using nature chakra rather than raw chakra, the properties of the Genjutsu can change in accordance to that nature and become stronger. For example, using Crushing Snake Constriction with Fire Release chakra would make the snakes appear, feel, and sound as though they were on fire. The user is free to alter the effects of a Genjutsu within reason as long as the primary effects remain the same. Like other Yin-Yang infusions, this technique only increases the chakra within the technique by an additional rank in strength, or 10, whichever is higher.
Note: Can only be used 6 times per battle.
Note: Cannot be used on techniques above S-Rank.
Note: Yin Release Specialists and Yin-Yang users can use advanced elements and CE.

This is the next technique on the list.

Alright this one has been the source of a lot of heartache and misconceptions over the years. But it’s been clarified and edited many times now to hopefully make it very obvious what it does.

You’re not much of a Gen enthusiast so I won’t grill you here. But give me your impressions and questions.

The technique empowers illusions, and more interestingly, allows you to alter them slightly by infusing elemental chakra. If applied correctly, it can grant an illusion greater realism as well as the stated boost.

My first question is this: If an elemental surge is used to break an illusion, does it follow the S/W of the element infused into the illusion? I.e. a chakra surge of containing 10 more chakra if a Wind elemental surge is used against a Genjutsu infused with fire.

"a Genjutsu empowered by the Five Elements Illusion can penetrate through any passive defense or subversive method against Genjutsu"

Does this circumvent Nekura or Surgebinder immunities? It's pretty ambiguous wording.

Yes to both questions! The first is very important; elemental Genjutsu is just Genjutsu that is more versatile and probably has higher Chakra required to break it. But the element used requires that you respect strengths and weaknesses.

And yeah, this bypasses all passive immunities. That goes for things like Nekura too.

Does this bypassing of immunities apply to all Yin Genjutsu, or only those which specify?
