Ok so does Yamato have a bloodline limit?
And if yes is it the ability to combine 2 element types in general or is it specifically earth+water=wood
I know Haku's was ice and that he could actually control a lot of ice without using hand signs and also could make seals with one hand. Has anyone else been able to make one handed seals? Would anyone who combined 2 elements in one jutsu be considered to have a blood limit?
For example: the third hokage used earth and then fire to make flaming meteor like objects when fighting oro. Did he create a new element? Probably not, but he did use 2 elements in a single attack. Did he have a kekei genkei?

Back to Yamato
Is his ability to control the Kyubbi a kekei genkei of its own or is it just a result of being able to use wood jutsu? Why does wood work on the tailed beasts?
Did the first hokage use wood jutsu to tame them or could he just mentally control them?

Woooo lots of questions... sorry

Yamato's wood jutsu and kyuubi supressant jutsu are both kekki genkai.

The 1st could tame the tailed beasts and control them.

The 3rd didn't have a kekki genkai.

The ability to use ice is not a kekki genkai, but Haku's demonic ice mirrors are.

Wood jutsu is a kekki genkai, while ice and lava are not.

B-Sama if I may correct you on this ice is the combined result of wind and water, haku was able to control wind and water separately, the ability to gather wind and water chakra separately in his hand and combine them together is a bloodline limit

Haku’s ability to mix water and wind to create ice was a bloodline limit. His being able to create handsigns with only one hand was never explained; it may have been part of his Kekkei Genkai, or just a unique ability.

But, Yamato’s ability to mix earth and water is not a Kekkei Genkai he was born with; Wood Release is the Kekkei Genkai of the Senju Clan, which the 1st Hokage was part of.
Orochimaru transplanted some of the 1st Hokage’s DNA into Yamato and 29 other test subjects just before the Sannin had to leave the village, so Orochimaru never found out if any of his test subjects survived- Yamato is the only one who did.

There is only one living descendant of the 1st Hokage and that is Tsunade, who has not shown the ability to use Mokuton. It is unknown what happened to the Senju clan later, but it is assumed that the clan, now considered the people of Konoha, eventually dropped their name and broke up into several minor clans. Tsunade , however, could still boast the Senju name, being a direct descendant of Hashirama, the clan's leader. It is debated, however, if Tsunade's surname is Senju.

OK starting off..
Kekkei genkai is using 2 elements simultaneously ex. Wood element-earth chakra in one arm, water chakra in the other arm.
earth+water=wood
wind+water=ice
earth+fire= lava

The confusion with ice is that in one of the movies they use ice element but that's a movie so its not canon.

With the 3rd Hokage, he used two techniques, the second to add more power to the first. In the fight against Oro, he first used Earth Release: Earth Flow River to have Oro slide down the roof.
Then he used Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet to fire concentrated mud at Oro.
Then he used Fire Release: Fire Dragon Flame Missile to ignite the mud balls at increase its power.
So the 3rd just powered up Earth Dragon Bullet by setting it on fire. There was a mixing of elements simultaneously. Just two attacks combining.

Now for Yamato,
He has a kekkei genkai but only has it because he was injected w/ the First's DNA, not born with the kekkei genkai itself. Not sure how the wood jutsus control the tailed beasts but somehow it just does. It probably has something to do with Japanese mythology.

Kekkei Genkai (血継限界; Literally meaning "a technique limited to inheritance by blood, or Bloodline Limit") are abilities passed down genetically in specific clans. Kekkei Genkai and their related jutsu can't be taught or copied by others, but it is possible to confer the ability to another person if it's localized in a particular organ like the eyes via organ transplant, like Obito passing his Sharingan eye to Kakashi. Kekkei Genkai abilities that work via the user's eye are called Dojutsu. Kekkei Genkai is usually translated into Bloodline limit or Bloodlimit techniques.

ok fine. He was specifically asking about elements and so I didn't add in dojutsu.

Some kekkei genkai are also certain abilities that have to do with some organs like Sharingan or Kimmimaro's clan ability.

However, the ice-users in Naruto's adventure in the land of snow were able to use ice jutsus without a kekki genkai.
