2- the byagukan hasn't been relevant since way before shippuden, it served its purpose in then original naruto

The Rinnegan, most likely, is not a genetic thing. I somewhat doubt that it requires both Senju and Uchiha bloodlines (though this might be a way to make achieving it easier).

Regardless - the Rinnegan is based off of Buddhist principles. The whole concept of Buddhism is inner enlightenment, seeking the 'God' that lay within us.

It is compatible with many Taoist concepts and outlooks - which suggest that a 'Sage' becomes, essentially, one within nature.

And what happened to all that crap when it was said that Byakugan is the upgraded version of Sharingan...

That is how the Byakugan fits into the whole story - and how Hinata fits in with Naruto.
