Mid-Ranged. Using Zetsu biography. Plain field, no water source nearby. We both approach mid-range at approximately the same time. Stationary at the start of the battle.

Zetsu begins by throwing a kunai high into the air so that it arcs over and hits you in the top of the shoulder and then throwing 2 shuriken at you.

Vergil: Well that isn't nice.

As the 2 shuriken flies at me Vergil throws 2 kunai at them, sending them flying in different directions. Effectively guarding himself from them. He glances up and sees the kunai arching down towards him. Due to the arch and the way it was thrown it wouldn't have much impact. Vergil slides to the right a little and catches the kunai, throwing it back at you aimed at your head.

As the kunai approaches Zetsu splits straight down his center like of symmetry and becomes two halves.

As black Zestu begins to flow into the earth. Vergil preforms 3 handseals causing the area around and below both of the Zetsu's to turn into an swamp with sticky adhesive properties. Restricting movement between the both of them. Since Black Zetsu was already going into the earth he'd be closer to sinking into the swamp than the white zestu.

The second the swamp forms, Vergil builds up suiton chakra into his body, allowing him to release it upon slamming his hands onto the ground. Summoning a massive amount of water above the already drowing black zetsu. The water isn't summoned high enough to do damage, only high enough to get him wet.

As the water falls and the ground's adhesive products restrict their lower bodies' movements, they release roots from their bodies and from the ground below them so that an immense root blocks out the water and causes the water to scatter in all directions except for directly on top of them, falling into the swamp. At this time, the roots also lift them up so that the mud is no longer affecting them.
