When and why have they turned Beast into a cat?

Remember when Beast looked like this

To look more beastly I guess..beast before hand always looked like wolverine wit blue fur to me. This whole new thing ain't bad.

Don't' know about the when but for why I guess its to make him appear more like a "Beast". I agree with the post above me, he did have Wolverine like hair before.

I (and this might just be me projecting) and a lot of people I think saw him as more of an ape/squatch related animal, the way he could use his feet and how he climbed around with them was more ape like. I liked the original look because it's not animalistic, I always saw Beast as a unique creature with no real counter part in nature, because he is after all a mutant, the cat look makes it a little to terrestrial for me. It's not a terrible look with good artists I do agree with you two about that but it's just not the same for me.

Yeah I mean in the original comics he was a squatch beast and he was really powerful/smart. He is now a damn cat that won't scare anybody
