Akira’s Kind of an idiot when it comes to rational thinking, in my opinion. Goten and Trunks are child super saiyans, prodigies among the canon Saiyans. And while they could have potienally surpassed Teen Gohan’s strength at younger age, Akira decided to sit them out and make them only useful in fusions. The messed up thing is that they aren’t even doing anything, they’re literally not even enrolled in school. But he made Buu sit out because he didn’t want to downplay Buu’s hype, decided to recruit Tien (who did nothing) and Krillin. Albeit Krillin actually did something but that’s still shit writing.

The issue with cell is that all his moves are a copy/paste of every1 on unv7.. Folks would complain about seeing the same moves over & over again an probably drop the show..

Ultra Buu would've been better then Cell & Freiza for the tournament IMO..

Will Cell go SSJBlue?

I prefer Frieza as he isnt a clone of other people like Cell is.
That allowes for different writing.

I for example loved how Frieza gave Goku energy after the first incomplete ultra instinct (to repay how Goku gave Frieza energy on Namek).
Also the scene Goku and Frieza let their hands slip while laughing and punched each other in the gut after Baba brought Frieza to earth.
Goku and Frieza have some alternate rivalry between each other and Vegeta has a long history with Frieza.
Frieza knows Beerus.

Frieza on the team is more interesting for me than Cell would be.

I dont find Cell interesting as a character.
Probably the least interesting enemy in Z for me.
So imo he can stay dead.

I think adding buu would've have guaranteed victory.. If buu had absorbed Jiren, or even Toppo.. That would've tipped the scale WAYYYY on universe 7 side.. Even absorbing hit, or kefla would've did it.. buu is op for this type of tourney and they knew it

I really like the chemistry frieza and goku have. It was fun to watch their relationship develop somewhat as the tournament went on. I also liked how Frieza always gave the sense that he wasn't truly aligned with U7 so there was always the chance he could betray them. Plus it's interesting to me to see how Frieza treats the tournament as a whole and whether he would actually truly fight for something other than himself.

I think Cell would have been great to bring back too. With his gene pool, it wouldn't be too difficult to increase his strength to at least ss3 level or somewhere in between ss3 and ss god level.

They could have potentially added both of them or even more past villains in lieu of krillin, tien, roshi, but that's another discussion.

People bring up Buu's absorption ability, but we've already seen Vegito survive it, at the very least, so it seems fathomable that Jiren or Toppo (or others) could negate it in some way. That said, I would have enjoyed seeing Buu in the tournament.

Just a last random note here. My hope is that the writers make Frieza do something borderline heroic (or noble, etc) that doesn't quite make you like him, but maybe develop some baseline respect for his character. ( I already enjoy Frieza immensely, but it would be cool to see a shift of sorts)

Cell killed 16, absorbed 17 & 18, almost killed Trunks (he actually did kill a different timeline’s Trunks lol), wounded Vegeta’s pride, crippled Gohan and got Goku killed. He talked far more shit than Frieza did and boasted his Perfect sense of narcissism. Plus, his Cell Juniors would’ve been perfect for the fights. At least I think so. They’re as strong as Ascended Super Saiyans (SSJ 1.5) and we’re beating the shit out of the Z fighters. I think Cell would’ve been far more useful than Frieza outside of his outdated powerlevel.

@Bold: Vegito put a shield around himself when he was absorbed. Plus his power level was on an entirely different scale than say Kale or Caulifa. The others haven’t shown abilities to use shields outside of Jiren plus they would be caught by surprise, they’ve never fought Buu before. Plus Buu has his Candy beam

Simply put, Cell for this tournament wouldn't have worked for entertaining purposes. For tournament purpose, eh why not. He gets to fight people stronger than him, and he could use UI.. but what I feel you guys are getting. Cell isn't a character who can be developed much outside of what he is. He isn't an alien, he is a monster with no race. In a sense, another Goku but way darker. Frieza has dialogue and has motive. His hate for saiyans drive him to grow stronger.. etc etc
