The fact is that what we're seeing here is blatantly unfair. It's become pretty clear that the Kage don't have a path to victory anymore. Kabuto god-modded Madara to Rikudo's moon. The Kage have had a great run. They put up a better fight than many believed they could. And as far as I'm concerned on the whole and as a unit, they are a credit to their villages and the shinobi way.

My question to you is, if they retreated under these circumstances, would you still respect them? I mean there's hope, there's skill, there's luck, there's will, there's struggle, there's faith....and then there's living to fight another day.

I am aware that in truth retreat is not an option since if Madara and Tobi win then it's the end of free will in the world, and they are also holding the line against Madara so that the other 30 or 40,000 ninja in the army and the villages don't die instantly fighting him.

Don't worry they won't retreat, they themselves said they'd rather die than escape.
And not really, I won't respect them, if one of them retreats then he isn't worth to be a kage ( a kage must be ready to Die for his people/country/viillage even if it means defeat, look at hiruzen, Minato, and the second Hokage Tobirama ) even their own people would disrespect them, but they won't do that so I still have my respect for them.

This. ^ Becasuse of this, I'll still respect the Kage's. They laid their own lives down to fight Madara and protect their villages. They are brilliant leaders and I really hope they don't die.

I respect Gaara and Onoki for carrying the team. Raikage was gonna die after getting caught in genjutsu, gaara saved mei from a fatal blow by softening her landwith sand, Tsunade got a hole through her body and was lucky she had Mitonic mode.

Onoki+Gaara stopped a Meteor.
Onoki used Jinton to release the Flower world.
Gaara pulled Madara from Susano'o

Yes I would. Edo Madara is an embarrassingly strong opponent to face. If they make it out alive they did well.

their enemy is just on another level
-- also i think madara will be gone soon since edo tensei was released
so they will not "loose" (u can't loose if ur enemy disappears?)n
or retreat as madara would not be there for much longer
