The fact is that what we're seeing here is blatantly unfair. It's become pretty clear that the Kage don't have a path to victory anymore. Kabuto god-modded Madara to Rikudo's moon. The Kage have had a great run. They put up a better fight than many believed they could. And as far as I'm concerned on the whole and as a unit, they are a credit to their villages and the shinobi way.
My question to you is, if they retreated under these circumstances, would you still respect them? I mean there's hope, there's skill, there's luck, there's will, there's struggle, there's faith....and then there's living to fight another day.
I am aware that in truth retreat is not an option since if Madara and Tobi win then it's the end of free will in the world, and they are also holding the line against Madara so that the other 30 or 40,000 ninja in the army and the villages don't die instantly fighting him.
