But since the thread is Gaara w/o Shukaku, there would be no transformation, therefore there would be no ball to initiate the transformation. With meant no free hit for Sasuke.

Sorry but no where in the OP does he say Garaa w/o Shukaku, only if he had not transformed, which he didn't due to Sasuke's chidori, therefore making my statement true.
