Would Itachi have defended Konoha from Pain if he were still alive?

I think Itachi would have defended Konoha, but then again I don't think Pain would've ever attacked Konoha so long as Itachi was still alive. They were good friends after all.

Of course. After Itachi died Madara (masked man) talked to zetsu about all the people they had lost and that the death of Itachi meant that he could now attack Konohagakure. Itachi probaly joined Akatsuki with a request: Do not attack Konoha.

So if Itachi were still alive he would defend Konoha and fight Pain.

Last time I checked,itachi was alive when akatsuki made a move on konoha killing asuma and trying to capture the 9 tails(naruto)..anybody who thinks itachi would have confronted pain is dreaming.sasuke is more important to him...his info won't even be needed because jiraiya already gave konoha the most important info which was 'the real one is not among them'..itachi doesn't have tracking abilities(he said so himself to kabuto)..so tracking nagato would still fall on naruto's shoulders..

From the conversations between edo itachi and nagato,it was clear that nagato didn't know itachi's double agenda.if tobi told nagato to attack konoha when itachi was alive,nagato won't hesitate a minute to attack konoha..but tobi didn't,not because he 'feared' itachi but because of the deal they had(at least he has honour) and what itachi might tell others(blackmail) e.g sasuke,konoha about his hand in the kyubi attack and uchiha massacre..

You did see a few chapters ago that it wasn't his real intention to kill the Uchiha Clan. He had no choice to be specific with you. The Konoha Council was debating on this very carefully, but Danzo and the rest ignored Hiruzen's wishes. Danzo pushed Itachi into a corner and even if Danzo didn't attack the Uchiha. Tobi would of eventually ignored Itachi to do it himself. In Part I, he could of grabbed Naruto, but did he? At this point, Itachi was dead so we could never really figure out his intentions. His main plan was Sasuke killing him to be declared a hero.

Offically Tobi had nothing to do with the deal Danzo & Itachi made.

Saying that Tobi would of eventually ignored Itachi and kill the clan himself is a false statement backed up with no evidence whatsoever.

Itachi made the deal with Tobi so he could get his revenge on the clan. That is when Itachi told Tobi that "Konoha is off-limits" and threatned Danzo to leave Sasuke alone, begged Hiruzen to keep him safe.
