I would say yes, it's bad, if humans wore really the only sentient life forms, because lets face it, we aren't really doing a very good job at making sure we won't go extinct...
The universe is to big, the chances of planets being created is acutally bigger that what we had first realised, so it's very implosable that there won't exist sentient species somewhere else, sure it might not be in out own galaxy, or if it wore, then maybe they wend extinct several million years ago, it's just that the universe have existed for so long, and is so big that's it's litterly impossible that there won't be sentient life somewhere else.
when ever it's fun to believe or not dossen't really change anything, however I do like me some good Si-Fi, so I guess it is?
