It would be Hayate if he WAS a Jounin, but he wasn't, he was a Chunin. (Edit: Turns out he was...) Also, Koketso and Izumo or whatever their names are (Turns out their names are Genma and Raido LOL i dont know where Koketso and Izumo is from lool) - the 2 guys who got whooped by the Sound 4 and also fought Hidan & Kakazu the first time with Team Asuma and also did the FtG move in the manga when summoning Tsunade & Raikage to the battlefield to fight Madara are not Jounin - they are Chunin, and they were the 4th Hokage's personal bodyguards. Jounins tend to be team-leaders of rookie genin teams whereas Chunins don't, and usually have roles like overseeing exams, being shinobi school teachers or personal bodyguards/escorts of VIP's. That's the distinction I more or less gathered from the manga.
You can't call Asuma and Kurenai the weakest Jounins because they've never won a fight. Their opponents happened to be friggin Akatsuki members ITACHI and Hidan. An unfair advantage and they never stood a chance against such super-powers. Kurenai IS a genjutsu master - the genjutsu master of konoha, and against any other konoha genjutsu shinobi and probably some of the other countries, she would have won. BUT Itachi is more or less the genjutsu master of the super-powered elites in the whole world, and that's why she lost.
Now Asuma actually beat Hidan initially and it took Kakazu's interference to help Hidan to kill Asuma so Asuma's not weak either, and consider who he went up against. In a way it wasn't just Hidan cos Kakazu was there too. Asuma had the ability to keep Hidan's body and head separate, and if not for Kakazu, it would have been game over. But like someone has said before, it's also near impossible to beat an Akatsuki member on the first fight with them as you don't know how their special powers work.
In conclusion, weakest is defo Ebisu if you ask me. He has very basic shinobi skills, no special power, intelligence or skill of any kind and the man sat there pooping his pants whilst his GENIN student Konohomaru raped a Pain body :sy: Need I say more??
